BOSTON UNIVERSITY GENEALOGY PROGRAM ENDING
Boston University announced this week that they are ending their Genealogy Studies Program. According to an official Facebook post, “The program will officially conclude at the end of the Spring 2026 semester (April 2026). Between now and then, prospective and current students will still have several opportunities to enroll in courses, including: Fall 2025 (starting in late October): Genealogy Principles (7 week course) or Genealogy Practicum ( 7 week course); Spring 2026: Final offering of the Certificate in Genealogical Research 15-week course, with students earning a Certificate and a badge credential.” The BU website should also have complete and correct information – https://genealogyonline.bu.edu/ . You can find a list of other genealogical education options on our website, here.
NEW GENTECH TOOLBOX COURSE
The newest GenTech Toolbox course from NGS has been announced and will be “From Chaos to Clarity: Organizing DNA Matches with Clusters,” taught by Toolmaster Blaine Bettinger, PhD, JD. In this hands-on, online workshop, you’ll practice clustering to confirm relationships or reveal missing ancestors in your tree. As with previous Toolbox programs, you can choose from attending the live program only, the live plus recording access, or recording (on-demand) access only. Full details and registration options at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/gentechtoolbox/dna-clusters/
NEW DATABASE OF ENSLAVED RECORDS
American Ancestors announced a new database available to search on their website: North America: Records of Enslaved People from Plantations and Estates, 1765-1890. The database is an index only (no images) and contains birth, death, marriage, and census records of those enslaved and their families at Cedar Grove Plantation in North Carolina. More volumes will be added as they are completed. You can read all about the database here, and search the database here. (Works best when logged in to the website even with a free account.)
