ROOTSTECH REGISTRATION OPENS

Registration is now open for RootsTech 2027, hosted by FamilySearch International, and will be held March 4–6, 2027, both online and in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year’s conference theme is “Celebrate!”, and two keynote speakers announced are genetic genealogist CeCe Moore and actress and philanthropist Jane Seymour. Online attendance is free, as always, while early bird pricing is now available for in-person registration at RootsTech.org. I’ll keep you updated as more keynotes and planned events are announced. FREE SOCIETY SUMMIT

The free, virtual, New York Genealogical and Historical Society Summit will be held online this coming Friday, October 2, 2026. Sessions will share practical ideas for finding and keeping volunteers, using publication archives, scanning and protecting historical records, and working with AI. A question-and-answer workshop will also help society leaders learn about planning, fundraising, membership, programs, websites, and other needs. Again, this is both free and virtual! NEW ENSLAVEMENT RECORDS DATABASE…

Ancestry just announced Tuesday that they have digitized and published nearly 4 million records from the Former British Colonies Enslavement Registers (1813–1840) collection at no cost to researchers. The collection spans 20 former British colonies and includes about 300,000 register pages containing names, ages, family connections, and physical descriptions to aid Afro-Caribbean and African diaspora family history research. It’s free to explore the Former British Colonies Enslavement Registers – you just need a free Ancestry account. NGS ANNUAL MEETING

The National Genealogical Society 2026 Annual Meeting is taking place via Zoom on 14 October at 8:00 p.m. ET. It will include the election of the Board of Directors, a reflection on what we’ve achieved together in 2026, a look at the exciting year ahead, and Q&A. NGS individual members and organization member delegates should have an email with the link to register via Zoom.
