THE DESK FROM HOBOKEN

A Genealogy Mystery by ML Condike.

Available now at all major online retailers in eBook and print formats: https://books2read.com/The-Desk-from-Hoboken

🔵 800+ DIGITAL BOOKS
I subscribed to the Genealogical.com “My GPC Library” last summer, and I’ve been really happy with it thus far. I’ve found many books in it that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else, that have really helped me with my research. A subscription gives you access to nearly 800 ebook titles, which are searchable. You can also make notes, add citations and bookmarks too. It’s on sale for 15% off until April 23. https://genealogical.com/subscriptions/

🔵 VIRTUAL SEATS ADDED
A few seats have been added to the June AI Toolbox Virtual Workshop from the National Genealogical Society, “Use AI to Research Historical Documents & Letters” with Mark Thompson. From the description: See how AI is revolutionizing the way genealogists interact with historical documents and letters. Using AI, projects that used to take weeks and months, and require specialty knowledge, can often be done in minutes and hours. The workshop will be live on June 20 at 2 pm Eastern, with the recording available to registrants for one month following the live event. You don’t need to be an NGS member, but you will need to sign in with a free account. Details here.

🔵 GENEALOGY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Be sure to check the Deadlines section below for several looming scholarship application deadlines for The Midwest African American Genealogy Institute (MAAGI) and also for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG). Details and links for more information are on our Genealogy Awards, Grants & Scholarships page.

🔵 DNA Day 2024
DNA Day is this Thursday, April 25, and along with test kit discounts from most all of the DNA companies, the live online fun genealogy event being held by YourDNA Guide and others (mentioned last week), FamilySearch is celebrating with a full day of free webinars. You can either watch via Zoom or via Facebook Live. And if you don’t get your fill of free DNA webinars, search through the RootsTech library and you’ll find dozens and dozens more DNA webinars from past RootsTech conferences.

🔵 DO YOU ENJOY DNA MYSTERIES?
Fans of author Nathan Dylan Goodwin will want to attend the upcoming webinar from the Kentucky Genealogical Society, “The Science Behind the Stories: Using Genetic Genealogy in Crime Fiction,” on April 23. KGS’s programs are ‘member only,’ but membership is only $20 for the year, and (like many societies) includes access to a library of past webinars, among other benefits.

If you’re looking for your next book to read, be sure to check out this week’s email sponsor: Author ML Condike’s entry into the world of DNA/genealogy mystery novels, “The Desk from Hoboken.”

🔵 UPCOMING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • April 30 – MAAGI Scholarship application deadline
  • May 1 – Application deadline for 5 different scholarships to SLIG (Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy)

🔵 UPCOMING CALLS FOR PRESENTATIONS DEADLINES
The listing below is only those that are new or with deadlines coming soon, listed by their “Submit by” date. Find details of these and MORE at  http://conferencekeeper.org/call-for-papers/

  • SUNDAY! Submit by Apr 21 – 2024 APG Virtual Professional Management Conference
  • Submit by Apr 30 – Annual Conference of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society

I’ve tried my best to get a full week’s worth of events entered in just 3 days this week, as I’ve flown to Tucson for dad’s 100th birthday party and unashamedly am enjoying time with my family instead of working 🙂 I’m writing this in advance of Saturday (which honestly I never do), and making a quick check Friday night, so hopefully nothing earth-shattering will occur in the genealogy world until I’m home next week.

As always, if you have any questions, corrections, comments, or concerns, please let me know. I really appreciate your input! You may reach me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org , and I’ll do my best to reply as soon as possible.
