This Week’s Genealogy News:
(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate — it’s just good info)
PRIDE MONTH RESEARCH TIPS
To celebrate Pride Month this June, a new post on the NGS UpFront blog shares helpful tips for finding LGBTQIA+ ancestors. Because people often had to hide their identities or use coded language in the past, they can be tough to track down in traditional records. Community archives can be especially valuable, since they preserve personal papers, organization records, and other history that mainstream collections often missed. Learn more and find a few of the archives that might be helpful in your research on the NGS UpFront blog – https://upfront.ngsgenealogy.org/2026/06/join-national-genealogical-society-ngs.html
GENPROOF 2.0
Registration opens TODAY for three new GenProof Study Groups based on the brand new 2nd Edition of Mastering Genealogical Proof, by Thomas W. Jones. These groups are mentor-led, and include guided small group discussions, independent assignments, and more. See the website for complete info. https://genproofstudygroups.com/
FREE ACCESS TO DANISH & SWEDISH RECORDS
In celebration of Swedish National Day and Danish Constitution Day, MyHeritage is offering free access to Swedish and Danish records through Sunday, June 7. The free access includes 261.9 million Swedish records across 53 collections and 127.4 million Danish records across 32 collections. You can search church records, censuses, newspapers, passenger lists, and more to find your Nordic family stories. Search Swedish records at https://www.myheritage.com/research/records-catalog/sweden and Danish records at https://www.myheritage.com/research/records-catalog/denmark
MINNESOTA GOLD
Minnesota Genealogical Society has completed alphabetizing and cataloging their 20 file drawers of, in my opinion, genealogy gold – their file cabinets full of vertical files. They are now also findable in their catalog by searching the last name of interest and “family”. When visiting the library, simply look in the cabinets for the surname/s of interest. which are organized alphabetically. File folders may contain a variety of documents. More about the Hoffman Research Library at https://mngs.org/Hoffman-Research-Library . Additionally, the society is offering their annual membership for only $17.76 in honor of the semiquincentennial! https://mngs.org/MGS-1776
IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING
I came across an interesting scientific study recently which I thought might be of interest to at least some of y’all. In a nutshell, the study concluded that blood transfusions will not change your permanent DNA profile, so your family history results should stay the same even after a medical procedure. While a tiny bit of a donor’s DNA might show up in a blood test right after large, recent, or multiple transfusions, it does not mix with your own DNA or change who you are related to. You can read the study here if you’re interested – https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352551726000132

Thanks to everyone who thoughtfully alerted me to a spam email going around mentioning Conference Keeper evidently for credibility. Please know that I do not share my email list with anyone, and I’m currently the only person with access. If you’ve been following for a while, you’ll also know that I don’t sell anything, but gladly provide free resources! If you’re looking for a genealogy speaker, you can find several on our Speakers page, and even more at the Genealogical Speakers Guild. As always, please send any news, questions, corrections, comments, and concerns either by the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org. Thank you!
