OVER 55,000 SOURCES ADDED
Recently WikiTree held their 10th annual Source-a-Thon, where users added sources to as many unsourced profiles as possible on their collaborative online tree. In just 72 hours straight, volunteers working both as teams and by themselves added 55,409 sources! WikiTree is a free genealogy website where users can create and contribute to a single global family tree, with the goal of just one collaborative profile for every person on the tree (rather than a zillion profiles of the same person), reminding us that they aren’t just “my” ancestors, but rather “OUR” ancestors. https://www.wikitree.com/
FREE RESEARCH GUIDE
American Ancestors is offering a free download of their Researching America’s Colonial War Veterans Guide, that includes tips on early military records, muster rolls, land grants, and archival collections to help with researching Colonial War ancestors. Download the free guide here.
FRENCH ANCESTRY OR RESEARCH?
Legacy Family Tree Webinars has added a new series of live genealogy webinars that will be presented in French. There are currently 100 French language webinar recordings already available to LFTW members. The next new live webinar in French will be on October 21 at 10 am Eastern, Explorer vos racines en France : méthodes et ressources en ligne avec les collections de MyHeritage with Marie Cappart
1,000 NEW NAMES ON ENSLAVED.ORG
Jones Memorial Library, a specialized genealogical and historical research institution in Lynchburg, Virginia, has published a new dataset with Enslaved.org and the Journal of Slavery & Data Preservation, listing names and biographical details of more than 1,000 people who lived and worked on the Colerain and Tweedside plantations in Savannah, Georgia in the 1800s. You can find the dataset, as well as all of the details about where the information came from, at http://doi.org/10.14321/jsdp.6.3.0161
NEXT SATURDAY – OCT 18!
The Genealogy Network of Texas is hosting their annual all-day virtual genealogy event on October 18. Libraries across Texas (and a few other states) will host simultaneous events and share the presentations both to view in-person or via Zoom from home. Several locations are already on our calendar, or get all the details from the Waco McLennan County Library here.

Thanks for your patience with me this week! While in northeast Ohio to have dad’s ashes placed into his & mom’s headstone, I visited with my living relatives, spent time with my ancestors in at least four cemeteries, and spent a couple days at the Ashtabula library and an afternoon at the Trumbull County library in Warren, Ohio. I scanned 929 document images, including several photographs, from some absolutely amazing undigitized local collections at these two libraries, and I am 99.9% certain I’ve found the parents of my 2nd great grandfather Milo Allen plus actual photographs of these new-to-me ancestors as well! It’s been a wonderful week, but I’m looking forward to being home again soon. As always, please send your questions, corrections, comments, or concerns to me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org. Thank you!
– Tami Osmer Mize
