This week’s “What’s New” is being sponsored by AKIN.  Akin curates your ancestral retrospectives using family memorabilia, all-inclusive design know-how, and genealogical discoveries. Choose from custom book designs, tailor-made boxes and more — keepsakes that you and your family can cherish for years to come.

I hope you’ll thank them for helping support ConferenceKeeper by taking a moment to peruse their website, enjoy examples of projects, and learn more about what all Akin offers.

ANOTHER TV SHOW FOR GENEALOGISTS

I just discovered this PBS series, now in its second season: World’s Greatest Cemeteries.  From the PBS website: “World’s Greatest Cemeteries highlights hidden gems using actors, forensic scientists, historians and even horticulturists to share true stories of romance, war, espionage and intrigue. Each episode includes a thoughtful visual exploration of one of the world’s greatest cemeteries, along with dramatized re-enactments of pivotal moments in the life of a historical individual buried at the site.” Coming in May will be Cave Hill Cemetery in Kentucky. You can find out more about the show and which stations carry it, when it’s on, etc., at PBS: https://www.pbs.org/show/worlds-greatest-cemeteries/

24-HOUR MARATHON

Don’t forget that the Legacy Family Tree Webinars/MyHeritage 24-Hour Genealogy Webinar Marathon runs April 13-14 (this coming Thursday and Friday). Check out the list of programs and get registered for free for those you’re interested in!  www.familytreewebinars.com/24

FREE Q&A

Evalogue.Life just added a new free Q&A webinar on this coming Thursday (April 13) where you can learn more about their upcoming Oral History Interviewing class. It is especially for those with a professional genealogy or family history business, or folks that would like to kick their skills up to that level. It could also be of benefit if you do nonprofit work that involves interviewing people. If you’d like more information about the class, or even if you’re just curious, you’re welcome to attend this Thursday’s Q&A.  5:00 pm Mountain – https://evalogue.life/professional-session

AND NEXT WEEKEND…

I hope you’ve got your taxes done and your spring cleaning finished, because next weekend is absolutely packed with genealogy webinars, seminars, workshops and conferences — most are virtual or hybrid. I know of at least two big genealogy Fairs too – (Statesboro, GA and Camarillo, CA). There’s something for everyone! Just take a look through Saturday’s events and you’ll see a huge variety of topics being taught in the  85+ events on Saturday (April 15) alone!

FREE RESEARCH HELP

The Connecticut Society of Genealogists is offering free Zoom help sessions on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. You can currently register for a time slot through June. https://csginc.org/event/research-help-sessions/2023-04-13/

A QUICK TIP

Not event-related, but I came across something this week that has really been both fun and super helpful with my own genealogy research. If you can use a google search box, you’ve got the skills needed to enlist artificial intelligence to help direct your research. I wrote a very brief blog post about it on my other blog (RelativelyCurious.com) – it’s a 2 minute read at most. Hope you find it helpful!!

AND ANOTHER…

If you’re on Facebook, you may know that I share lots of events on the ConferenceKeeper page, but did you know there is a ConferenceKeeper GROUP page? It seems to be growing steadily, and group members are free to share their society’s or their own upcoming genealogy events there too. (And I’ll admit, I often share those posted events to the public page too! Come share events or just lurk, or maybe start a discussion or two  🙂 https://www.facebook.com/groups/ConferenceKeeper

WEBSITE UPDATES

I spent some time both fixing and breaking things this week, so please let me know if you come across something that isn’t working the way you expect it should!

I somehow “broke” the email sign-up pop-up, so I removed it altogether. I don’t imagine anyone will be heartbroken over that though 🙂 On the “fixing” side, I updated the weekly email signup form and process, and also added the information pages about website advertising under the “Home” button on the menu bar. If you or your society would like extra exposure for a genealogy event, whether for profit or not, consider advertising on the ConferenceKeeper.org website.  The rate sheet and form are online now, but you can always email me at info@conferencekeeper.org with any questions.

I hope you have a lovely Sunday, celebrating Spring, or Easter, or Passover or even just being alive.  That’s it for this week, except for the list of newly added events, below. As always, please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at  info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions. I always have access to my email 🙂  I hope y’all have a great week!
