RootsTech!

RootsTech starts this Thursday (March 2-4), both virtually and in-person. I’m really excited to be going to Salt Lake City for the week where I hope to share ConferenceKeeper with more family history enthusiasts, as well as libraries, businesses and societies! I’ll be roaming about the Expo Hall or in the Media Hub most of the time — and I’ve got some really fun stickers and magnets to give out if you find me 🙂  I’m also looking forward to being able to catch up with lots of my genie friends after the long Covid hiatus, and meet lots of new ones too! So please know too, that with all the activities, excitement, and travel this  week, there is a possibility that next week’s email just might be a little late.

Be sure to visit the Virtual Expo Hall, and learn about new genealogy products and services that you might not be familiar with.  Many folks offer Conference Discounts to virtual attendees too, along with special programs and presentations.  We’ve got a virtual booth too this year, but we always offer the calendar services for free anyway, so I couldn’t think of a discount to offer 🙂 If you’re looking for the ConferenceKeeper  listing in the Exhibitor list or our Virtual Booth, note that it is in the “G” section, under the official non-profit registration name of “Genealogy ConferenceKeeper.org, Inc.”  And you always know you can reach me by emailing info@conferencekeeper.org.

HELPFUL RESOURCE

Regarding RootsTech classes, I came across a fabulous spreadsheet put together by Devon Noel Lee from FamilyHistoryFanatics, with two tabs: one shows ALL of the RootsTech live classes, including a column showing which are being Livestreamed, and a second tab at the top with all the LIVE Virtual classes (some are streamed from RootsTech, some are just Live webinar-style).  This makes it so much easier to help determine which classes you might want to attend or find out more about.  You can find her fabulous schedule here:  pxl.to/fhfrt23sch   (And be sure to check out the FamilyHistoryFanatics website and YouTube channel where you can find LOT more really useful research tips and information!

IRISH RESEARCH SEMINAR

The Kentucky Genealogical Society’s Spring Seminar “Irish Research with John Grenham” starts this Friday.  It’s free for members, and membership is only $20 for a whole year of benefits. See the society’s website for details on the seminar and membership too: http://www.kygs.org

GENEALOGY JOBS

The Genealogical Society of New Jersey (GSNJ) is seeking applicants for the position of Editor of the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey.  See the ConferenceKeeper “JOBS” page for details and how to apply.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT DATE

Registration opens on March 4 at 9 a.m. EST (8 CST | 7 MST | 6 PST) for the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research, which will again be completely virtual, the week of July 23-28. There are 13 different (and all fabulous) genealogy courses to choose from this year. See the full list and descriptions at https://ighr.gagensociety.org/ighr-courses  and if you’re planning to register, please review the Registration Guide before the opening date and time so you’re prepared.

PROGRAM UPDATE

The Heritage Seekers free zoom program on Monday Feb 27, with Steve Morse, has had a change of topic. The program will now be “The 1950 Census: One Year Later.” Mr. Morse will be presenting the previously listed topic (his One-Step Websites), at a later date. Quite honestly, any presentation by Steven Morse is going to be great!  Details and how to request a zoom link can be found at https://heritageseekersar.com/event/the-1950-census-one-year-later/

LAPTOP UPDATE

You’re probably just as tired of hearing about this as I am of being without my laptop, but thought I’d give a quick update nonetheless, and another huge Thank You to those who have donated this past week to help with repair bill. I don’t take any remuneration for my work for ConferenceKeeper, so assistance with the laptop repair is sincerely appreciated.  And of course, it’s Murphy’s Law that not only is the repair cost obscenely expensive, but it’s also coming at about the same time of the year that many of my annual website and program fees come due (when it rains it pours, right?) (Remember that Genealogy ConferenceKeeper.org, Inc. is now an IRS 501(c)3 charitable organization, so your donations are tax deductible!) Anyway, I’m just waiting on the new motherboard to arrive from Dell now, so my computer doctor can work his magic. If it isn’t done by Tuesday, I’ll really be limited while at RootsTech (since the backup desktop PC won’t conveniently fit in my carry-on bag) so please have patience if you submit events this week 😊 I’ll do my very best, of course!

As always, please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions. I always have access to my email 🙂  I hope y’all have a great week!

– Tami Osmer Mize
