🔵 SWEEPSTAKES UPDATE & ROOTSTECH DISCOUNT!
Evidently there’s a small detail about the RootsTech giveaway that hasn’t been pointed out except in the terms & conditions… The 2024 RootsTech pass giveaway is only open to residents of the 50 United States and DC, but excluding Rhode Island (No clue why not R.I. – I’m sure it’s a legality thing).. To offer a small consolation for this issue, as part of the Media group for RootsTech, I’ve been given a 10% discount code to share for anyone to use: RT24SWEEPSTAKES. The code is only good through November 2. You will use the discount code at the end of the registration process, on the checkout page, when it shows the discount code box. Th(is is different than the promo code box.) You can enter the Sweepstakes here.

🔵 GENEALOGY JOBS
Three new genealogy jobs were added this week. See our Jobs page for details:

🔵 FREE ANNUAL SPECIAL EVENT
On October 20, The Genealogy Network of Texas will host a special all-day event with presentations from top genealogists in the field, as they have done annually for the past 22 years. This year, while many libraries will be hosting special in-person viewing of the scheduled events, some libraries and societies are also offering links to view the programs online. See our calendar for October 20 for many of the viewing options, including virtual viewing from anywhere.

🔵 GENEALOGY & JAMMIES
This sounds fun! The Iowa Genealogical Society is hosting a Genealogy Slumber Party at the IGS Library on October 22. Registration closes this week though, on Oct 16. and the cost includes pizza, a movie & popcorn, a light breakfast, and of course all the research you can fit in, whether you stay for just a few hours or all night. Details at https://igs.regfox.com/slumber-party

🔵 MASTER FAMILY TREE MAKER
This week, Kinseekers Genealogical Society of Lake County, Florida is starting a FREE 20-session course covering everything there is to know about Family Tree Maker software, from basic installation, starting a tree, to every other possible workspace/module the program offers. The series, led by Roger Goddard, does not have a set topic schedule; rather, the class pace is dependent on the input and feedback of participants. Attend some or attend them all! For details see https://Kinseekers.org

🔵 VIVA LAS VEGAS!
A newly remodeled FamilySearch Center is now open in Las Vegas! The center offers 47 patron computers, and 10 interactive discovery stations loaded with fun experiences: All About Me, Compare-a-Face, Picture My Heritage, My Famous Relatives, and Where I Come From. There is also a recording room, Record My Story, where you can digitally capture personal and family memories on video. You’ll find self-serve equipment where you can convert photos, slides, negatives, 8mm film, VHS videos, books, and reel-to-reel tape to digital (bring your own portable memory storage: flash drive or portable hard drive). This equipment can also be reserved in advance to be sure it’s available when you visit. And the center is fully staffed with volunteers to help you accomplish whatever task you set out to do. Best of all, it’s all FREE! Address: 509 South Ninth Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Website:  https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Las_Vegas_Nevada_FamilySearch_Center
