OGS 2025 Conference
The Ohio Genealogical Society 2025 Conference, “Light Up Your Genealogy,” will be April 30 to May 3 at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio. If you’re planning to attend, don’t forget to reserve your room by the end of March to secure the reduced conference rate. You can find more details at https://www.ogs.org/2025-conference/.
23andMe Files for Bankruptcy
You’ve probably heard this week that 23andMe has filed for bankruptcy, and CEO Anne Wojcicki has stepped down. Although she is still pursuing a buyback, users are advised to download their DNA data and other important information from the site as a precaution. Some folks are even encouraging that you completely delete your data as well. Court proceedings state that any new owner will have to comply with with 23andMe’s consumer privacy policy and all applicable laws with respect to the treatment of customer data.
NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
The National Genealogical Society’s 2025 Family History Conference is happening May 23-26 in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s going to be a full weekend of excellent genealogy education from the best speakers, with workshops, tours, great local research libraries, and the Memorial Day event at Cave Hill Cemetery & Arboretum. Plus, by attending the conference, you’ll get access to all lectures through July 15, 2025, via the conference app! You can find all of the conference details and information at https://conference.ngsgenealogy.org/ and don’t miss the article published this week on UpFront with NGS!
If you’d like a preview of the conference events and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may still have, attend the NGS Family History Conference Preview on April 11 via Zoom!
>The March 2025 Issue of the NGS Quarterly is now available https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/ngsq/, packed with feature articles (including one by Elizabeth Shown Mills), book reviews, and of course the #iReadtheQ Quiz. The NGS Quarterly is another great benefit of NGS membership!
>Classes are filling for the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP) 2025 sessions, but there are still a few spaces available in both the virtual (22-27 June) and in-person (13-18 July) sessions. These programs offer week-long, focused, in-depth education on the topic of your choice — and there’s quite a variety offered, with several new courses added this year. I’m attending in-person for my first time this year and can’t wait! Check out the courses and get registered soon: https://grip.ngsgenealogy.org
