SUNDAY DEADLINES

Sunday, May 12 at 11:59 pm Eastern time is the deadline to register for the National Genealogical Society 2024 conference, “Expanding Possibilities.” I just registered myself this past week, and am really looking forward to all the great presentations. I’m really glad that the recordings are available til August 15, since there are several presentations I want to see that are on at the same time during the conference. There are also lots of opportunities to interact with friends and meet new ones via chat rooms, meet ups, and more. Plus registrants can win some really nice prizes, like a one-week stay at the Plaza hotel in Salt Lake City by visiting virtual vendors in the Expo Hall! This is really an excellent investment in your genealogy education. https://conference.ngsgenealogy.org/

FREE ACCESS TO NEWSPAPER.COM THRU SUNDAY

Newspapers.com is offering free access through Sunday, May 12. Newspapers can provide all kinds of information, including births, deaths, marriages as well as illuminating possible family secrets of those black-sheep ancestors. https://go.newspapers.com/moms (not an affiliate link)

SCHOLARSHIP UPDATES/CHANGES

The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) has made some changes to their scholarship previously called the “Young Professional Scholarship.” The award is now called the “New Professional Scholarship,” and its purpose is “To recognize and support a new professional who has a strong interest in developing a career in the genealogical field.” The scholarship is open to individuals with “5 years or less of professional service in the field.” The chosen applicant will receive registration to an APG Conference plus up to $500 for travel and accommodation expenses. See our Awards, Grants & Scholarships page for details and the link to apply.

GRIP GENEALOGY INSTITUTE

There’s still time to register for GRIP Genealogy Institute. Virtual and in-person courses are available. Course lists and descriptions are available from the website  https://grip.ngsgenealogy.org/.  I finally made my own genealogy education a priority, and I’m taking the virtual session, Course 2 — I can’t wait! Spend time this summer enhancing your genealogical knowledge with GRIP. Register today!
