This week’s email is kindly being sponsored by Family Tree Magazine

Celebrating Scottish Family History Month in February with a series of insightful online webinars led by some of the best speakers in the field. Choose to attend individual talks or opt for the ‘bundle’ to enjoy all 6 sessions at a discounted rate. Details HERE.

🔵 FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH & SCOTTISH FAMILY HISTORY MONTH
If you’re looking for genealogy events related to a specific subject, like Scottish or African American research, you can easily search any of the calendars from the box in the top left of the green calendar area using keywords like Scottish, Scotland, African American, Black (or really any keyword!). Don’t forget too, that there is a calendar on the ConferenceKeeper.org website specifically for African American genealogy events at https://conferencekeeper.org/africanamerican/

🔵 GOT A MINUTE?
The National Archives (US) has some very interesting volunteer transcription projects currently in their Citizen Archivist program. If you’ve got a few minutes to spare here and there, why not help out transcribing – you might find your own ancestors in there! (You can also search some of these databases!) Just some of the current projects you can find at https://www.archives.gov/citizen-archivist/missions include:

  • Revolutionary War Pension Files
  • African American Patriots
  • World War II Oral Histories, Interviews and Statements
  • and maybe just for fun… Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs)

🔵 APPGEN OPENINGS
A few slots are still open for these upcoming week-long Applied Genealogy Institute courses. Email adm.appliedgen@gmail.com to register.

  • Architectural Ancestry: A Course in House History, Instructor: Jill Morelli, CG, CGL and FAIA Emeritus
  • The Art of Self-Editing for Genealogists, Instructor: Pam Anderson, CG
  • Bagging A Live One – Finding Living People, Instructor: Mary Kircher Roddy, CG

🔵 THIS COMING WEDNESDAY
Wednesday, Feb 7, NGS is hosting a wonderful free virtual program with A’Lelia Bundles on Family and Historical Research. Ms. Bundles is the biographer and great-great-granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker, who, according to Wikipedia, “was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist. She is recorded as the first female self-made millionaire in America in the Guinness Book of World Records.” This promises to be a wonderful program! Register for this free virtual program here.

🔵 HOUSEKEEPING
This week I revamped the Awards, Grants & Scholarships page, so that entries will also appear on the main calendar under their application deadline dates so hopefully will be easier to remember! If your society offers scholarships or research grants of any kind, please let me know and I’ll be glad to include it. It can be strictly for members only or open to the public – just specify please! Thank you!

🔵 FEBRUARY PROGRAM & SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES
