Author Megan Reilly KoepsellWhen it comes to genealogy and discovering details about the lives of our ancestors, we tend to chalk similar experiences up to coincidence and luck. But is that all it is? Or is it something more? Through a series of extraordinary experiences, author Megan Reilly Koepsell came to realize that her ancestors were reaching out to her, and she hopes to help readers connect with their ancestors in the same way.

This week I’m on a road trip from NC to AZ to visit my dad for Christmas. My son will be visiting at the same time, and we both enjoy hearing dad’s stories of his life (and we try to take notes too!) At 99 years old, although his sight and hearing are failing, dad’s mind and memory are still in great shape!
Thinking about dad’s stories reminded me of the (US) National Archives’ Citizen Archivist transcription program “In Their Own Words: World War II Oral Histories,” and I wanted to be sure y’all are aware of this exceptional resource as well as volunteer opportunity. This project has over 6,800 pages of transcribed personal accounts of WWII which are now searchable in the National Archives catalog. You can help finish this transcription project, or help with another — they have several fascinating ones available. For details on the Citizen Archivist program, please see https://www.archives.gov/citizen-archivist/missions
