This Week’s Genealogy News:

(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate — it’s just good info)

LITERALLY BILLIONS

FamilySearch added over a billion new US records last month, including public and vital records, military and cemetery records, and immigration and naturalization records. In addition, also added were 13 million vital, military, and emigration records for the United Kingdom; and 10 million civil registrations and session court records from Ireland. It’s time to search for your brick walls again! www.familysearch.org

LFTW ON SALE

Legacy Family Tree Webinars is on sale – new memberships are 50% off (only $25) through Sunday, May 3. Membership gives you 24/7 access to over 2,700 recorded webinars and over 11,000 syllabus pages as well – worth every penny, even at full price! https://familytreewebinars.com/checkout?coupon=spring26

USER TREES ‘HOW TO’

James Tanner posted a short blog article on “How to begin your own user Tree on FamilySearch.org”.  The User Trees are a fairly new feature to FamilySearch that allow you to build a private tree on FamilySearch, completely separate from the global Family Tree there. You can also invite others to view or edit, and you can also add photos and documents, and of course records from FamilySearch. Here’s how to get started – https://genealogysstar.blogspot.com/2026/04/how-to-begin-your-own-user-tree-on.html

MOM’S STORIES

For Mother’s Day, MyHeritage is offering 25% off on their MyStories service, which helps people preserve their life stories by answering prompts over a period of time and turning those stories and photos into a printed keepsake book. It’s an easy way to collect and compile family stories! https://www.mystories.com/

UPDATE REQUIRED

Vivid-Pix has updated their Restore and Memory Station software due to some recent Microsoft updates, and have added some new cropping functionality as well, so existing users will want to take a moment to download and install these new versions at vivid-pix.com/download/.  If you don’t already have the software, they’re offering 20% off through May and June (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduations, Reunions). https://www.vivid-pix.com/MemoryStation/   Use Coupon Code: Family26 for discounts.
And don’t miss their new contest to win some really great prizes!
