CALENDAR or VIRTUAL CALENDAR for
ALL of the upcoming genealogy events.

. . . . . .

I love this time of year, but not only for the emphasis on Thanksgiving and gratitude. These last two months of the year are when many societies and libraries start sharing what they have planned for the coming year, and I get to add these new events to ConferenceKeeper to share with you! I can’t wait to see the Legacy Family Tree Webinar lineup, or what any of the “regular” genealogy webinar providers have in store. If your society or library has already planned out several months, and the idea of adding all those events to ConferenceKeeper is a bit daunting, just email me with either a list or spreadsheet of your event information, or even just the URL of your website’s Events page, and I’ll get them all added for you. It’s really no problem!

FAMILYSEARCH CLASSES ON HOLD

I’m sad to report that you won’t see any new classes from the FamilySearch Family History Library until April 2023. Here’s why (from their website): “In order to enhance our classes, prepare for RootsTech, and create a better viewing experience, we will not be holding any classes or webinars from December 2022 through March 2023. If you would like to see any past recordings you can access them on the Family History Library Facebook … We look forward to seeing you in our webinars starting in April 2023.”  Once they start posting their new classes, I’ll get them posted so that you will be able to easily find them on our calendar at ConferenceKeeper.org.

NEW GENEALOGY CLASSES

You really  have a lot of options for more in-depth genealogy education, and I try to keep you apprised of some of the available programs on the Genealogical Education page.  In addition, you’ll find many advanced classes or multi-session genealogy programs listed on Conference from many other sources, including American Ancestors, Pharos Tutors, Family History Academy, Raleigh Senior TechEd, just to name a few. Several upcoming coming courses from Family  History Academy were added this week, and you can see them in the list below. (AND wouldn’t a genealogy course or a society membership make a great Christmas gift??)

Santa Rosa Junior College has also shared their upcoming free online genealogy courses, available to anyone with a California address.  You can find them all on the calendar, or see their whole list of offerings and instructions on how to sign up at http://older-adults.santarosa.edu/join-class

NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL ADDED

The Gen-Z Genealogy YouTube has been added to the YouTube page on ConferenceKeeper.org. See all that we’ve found, and don’t hesitate to submit others: https://conferencekeeper.org/youtube/

DREAM OF BEING A (GENEALOGY) ROCK STAR?

Did you know there are more than a dozen Calls for Presentations currently listed on our website? Whether you’re a veteran presenter or just getting started, this is the place to look for opportunities. See the societies and events who are currently requesting speakers for their programs, at  https://conferencekeeper.org/call-for-papers/

NEW DNA PROJECT FOR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS

On November 29, the Center for Jewish History is hosting a webinar as part of the official launch of the DNA Reunion Project at the Center for Jewish History. It will be a conversation-style program with Jennifer Mendelsohn and Adina Newman, professional genealogists with a niche expertise in Ashkenazi Jewish genetic genealogy. “The DNA Reunion Project at the Center for Jewish History will make commercial DNA kits available free of charge to Holocaust survivors or their children and will serve as a central genealogical resource where survivors with complex case histories can avail themselves of expert genetic genealogical consultation.”  The program sounds fascinating, and the cost is “pay what you wish.”  https://programs.cjh.org/tickets/dna-reunion-project-2022-11-29

DNA KIT GIVEAWAY

I really am so grateful to be able to run ConferenceKeeper.org and make it as useful as possible. I appreciate all the support I get from you (all of you) by way of emails and comments, and I really appreciate knowing that many of you tell your genealogy friends and others about the website! (I’m sure you know that sharing our social media posts expands our audience exponentially!) The purpose of this giveaway is really  just to have a little fun and give something back to y’all who follow ConferenceKeeper, either reading these newsletters or on social media. This is the first of 3 DNA kit giveaways I’ve got planned for the end of 2022. The contest starts tonight (Saturday, 11/19) at midnight Eastern, and you’ve got until next Saturday night to enter.  Contest details and entry at pxl.to/qcz4gkbr

JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Last week I shared the link to my short blog post on organizing your genealogy events, and in case you missed it, I’ll just drop it again here: https://conferencekeeper.org/organizing-your-genealogy-events/

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING LISTEN

I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind y’all of what a wonderful opportunity you have to collect family stories during the holidays. StoryCorp, a group dedicated to collecting oral histories promotes, something called “The Great Thanksgiving Listen” every year since 2015, encouraging and providing the tools for everyone to create an oral history by interviewing someone close to them or that they admire.  You can read more about it here: https://storycorps.org/discover/the-great-thanksgiving-listen/

Thank you for reading and following ConferenceKeeper.org 🙂 Please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org. if you have any comments or questions. I sincerely appreciate your input! I sincerely hope you have a wonderful week full of Thanksgiving 🙂
