CALENDAR or VIRTUAL CALENDAR for
ALL of the upcoming genealogy events.

. . . . . .

We’ve made it two weeks into the new year, the time where I find I’ve moved past the idea of “resolutions” and on to more realistic goals. It’s always a good idea to continue to think  about what you might want to accomplish, or do differently this year. There are so many facets of genealogy research – what new skill are you thinking of learning this year? What area are you going to try to get a handle on? Which ancestor are you going to tackle? Well, not physically tackle, but you know what I mean!  Maybe you just want to try something different – why not attend any of the dozens of virtual genealogy groups put on by various local libraries? Maybe challenge yourself to take a genealogy organization class, or learn to use a new genealogy program.

I’m taking an Evalogue.Life writing class to help push myself to writing more of the stories that I’m afraid I’m going to forget.  I was inspired at the end of last year work on scanning my photos again after I got one of the Vivid-Pix Scan Snap scanners (which, oh my goodness, takes absolutely all the stress and struggle out of scanning). And every time I start scanning and looking at old photos, I start remembering the stories that I want to tell around them… and never get around to. This is the year.  [Please note these mentions are NOT a paid advertisement and I’m just sharing my own thoughts and experiences with you 🙂 ]

So what are you thinking about doing? Maybe you want to finally figure out using DNA with your research. There are sooo many webinars and seminars coming up to help you learn! Did you know there is an entire calendar of just DNA events on ConferenceKeeper.org? https://conferencekeeper.org/dna/

Remember, you can search for ANYTHING on any of the calendars by typing your search term or keyword into the little box at the upper left side of every green calendar box.  Just refresh the page when you’re done to get back to the page’s usual list if you’d like.  Whatever you’re looking for — Beginning, DNA, African American, Jewish, Military, Land, Tax, Census… you’ll find lots of education opportunities on our calendar, from the thousands of events that are posted.

IT’S ROOTSTECH PASS GIVEAWAY TIME!

If you’re planning to be at RootsTech in Salt Lake City this year, in-person, be sure to keep an eye on our Contests page, and try to WIN your 3-day pass! If you’ve already purchase one, the good folks at RootsTech will kindly refund your purchase price if you win one. Last I checked I think there were about 18 different contests up – and quite honestly, in the past I’ve seen contests where only a dozen folks enter, so your odds are really good to win!  www.conferencekeeper.org/genealogy-contests

AND IT’S SPRING CONFERENCE SEASON!

We’ve got lots of Spring conferences, seminars and workshops from various societies posted on the website, with a huge variety of topics and featured speakers. These virtual programs often include some fun socializing and often door prizes too!  There is a page on the website for just conferences, but you can also search for “Spring” or “seminar” or “workshop” too!

OTHER NEWS & UPDATES

The Truckee Meadows Community College Open Genealogy Lab has been on our calendar for a long time now, and it continues in 2023 meeting virtually every Friday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm Pacific.  I didn’t realize that they also regularly have guest speakers at these free online events, and I’ve gone in and added those that are currently scheduled (some really awesome programs!).  This is a free online event  and everyone is welcome. It is for beginner, intermediate and advanced family researchers. Check out their website for a lot of great resources and information, as well as the upcoming speakers too. https://libguides.tmcc.edu/c.php?g=606579  and you can watch past events which have been recorded and are shared on their YouTube channel (also now on the ConferenceKeeper YouTube Channels page too!)

NEW PODCAST ADDED

Another genealogy podcast has been added to the ConferenceKeeper Podcasts page: Love Your Lineage.  The podcast description says that it will “help us see beyond finding missing names and show us how everyone, no matter what our background or family situation, can make deep and powerful connections to our ancestors.”  Check it out at https://www.ldsliving.com/loveyourlineage

That’s all I’ve got this week – or at least all I can remember for now, lol. As always, thank you so much for all your support, and especially liking and sharing our posts on social media. Any comment or interaction suggests to Facebook that others might like to see the post and more people end up learning about ConferenceKeeper.  And of course, please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions.  Have a great week!
