JUNETEENTH EVENTS

Juneteenth is celebrated this coming week, on Thursday, June 19th. You can find several free events celebrating the holiday that include genealogical research this month. The Juneteenth holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the US, celebrating June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved people that they were free. Search our calendars for “Juneteenth”, or look through the African American Research Calendar page here: https://conferencekeeper.org/africanamerican/

AGING & FAMILY HISTORY SYMPOSIUM

The recordings from the recent Aging & Family History Symposium are now available and free to watch. The event was hosted by Vivid-Pix, FamilySearch, and the National Genealogical Society, and addressed topics surrounding healthy aging, including how the family history community can help our local communities and the aging population. The symposium offers important information for both individuals and societies. Watch the full sessions here: https://www.vivid-pix.com/ngs-symposium/

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

If you are under 45 years old, have 3 to 5 years of genealogy experience, and are a member of a traditionally underrepresented group in NGS (racial, ethnic, disability, or religious background), you absolutely should apply to participate in the newly announced James Worris Moore Leadership Academy from the National Genealogical Society (NGS). The Moore Leadership Academy offers an opportunity for individuals passionate about genealogy and family history to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience to forge a pathway toward leadership in the field of genealogy. Along with exclusive leadership training, hands-on experience and networking opportunities, participants will receive a one-year NGS membership, free registration for the annual NGS Family History Conference, and a $250 research stipend. Full details and application information can be found here: https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/james-worris-moore-leadership-academy/

THIS WEEK’S GENTECH TOOLBOX

Hands-On AI for Family History Writing is the next GenTech Toolbox workshop, this Tuesday, June 17 at 2 pm ET via Zoom. Learn how to prompt smarter, get better results from AI, and turn your research into clear, readable family stories, ancestor profiles, or blog posts. Walk away with real examples, practical tips, and writing strategies you can use right away. The July GenTech Toolbox program will be Hands-On Excel for Genealogists with Mark Thompson. Details and registration for both can be found at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/genealogy-courses/gentechtoolbox/
