This Week’s Genealogy News:
(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate — it’s just good info)
ROOTSTECH 2026!
Below are just a few of the hundreds of exhibitors you’ll find at RootsTech – both at the in-person Expo Hall and the virtual one as well! The folks mentioned below replied to my request last week to send in booth info to be highlighted in this week’s newsletter, so be sure to stop by and say Hi, whether in person or virtually!
ARCHORAL: Expo Hall booth 1408. We’re excited to demonstrate A Complete Workflow for Modern Memory Preservation. Every archive begins with a moment—a photo, a story, a box of records. But preservation today is more than scanning; it’s restoration + storytelling + connection + long-term access. That’s exactly what Vivid-Pix + Archoral will be demonstrating at RootsTech. https://archoral.com/
FAMILYTREE DNA: Expo Hall booth 419. You’ll find an impressive lineup of speakers at the FamilyTree DNA Booth Talks, and those who attend any of the talks can enter to win a free DNA test. See the schedule of booth talks at https://blog.familytreedna.com/familytreedna-rootstech-2026-schedule/
GENEABLOGGERS & PROJECTKIN: Expo Hall Society Pavilion booth 1600. Learn more about GeneaBloggers and ProjectKin and come hang out with other family history writers, podcasters, and videographers. All GeneaBloggers are invited to be part of the Annual Group Photo on Friday at 12:15 at the booth. You can also record a spontaneous interview in the booth or sign up for time in the nearby free RootsTech recording booth! Attending virtually? Don’t miss the fun – see the RootsTech ridealong
GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA: Expo Hall Society Pavilion booth 1611. Bring your questions for PA genealogy experts and check out the GSP publications and books for sale. Don’t miss the special in-person session “The Pennsylvania Tapestry: Context and Strategies for Genealogy” with GSP Board Member Karen Ellingson, Sat., March 7, 3 pm in Room 155A. https://genpa.org/
ISBGFH (International Society for British Genealogy and Family History): Expo Hall Society Pavilion booth 1607. Offering wonderful free research guides for the British Isles and huge discounts on individual and student memberships! https://isbgfh.com/

(MyHeritage’s Daniel Horowitz will be heading to Florida for several special presentations after RootsTech, too!).

ON YOUR MARK, GET SET…
I’m packing and planning this weekend, and even though I’ve attended RootsTech nearly every year, I found the “How to Prepare for RootsTech: A Practical Guide” from the Heart of the Family website extremely helpful. Not only does it include practical and thoughtful ideas for those attending in person, but the tips on prioritizing and schedule planning are excellent for virtual attendees as well. If you’re already starting to feel overwhelmed, check out this guide at https://www.thefamilyheart.com/how-to-prepare-for-rootstech/
EARLY ACCESS
The recorded virtual programs for RootsTech will become available on March 4 – before the main conference begins! If you haven’t already, sign up for free virtual attendance, and start making your playlist from the course schedules so you’re ready!
COUSIN CONNECTING PART 3
Have you checked your Relatives at RootsTech lately? The first week I had 833 relative matches. The next week it was over 8,000. Today it’s just barely under 20,000! Are we related? Drop me a note at tami@conferencekeeper.org if we’re related 🙂 Relatives at RootsTech will only be available until April 30, 2026. https://www.familysearch.org/en/connect/
News from the National Genealogical Society
CONGRATULATIONS! The National Genealogical Society (NGS) announced this year’s education scholarship recipients! Shannon Kupfer-Trausch of Galena, Ohio, was awarded the John T. Humphrey, CG, Memorial Scholarship, and will receive a complimentary enrollment in the NGS Advanced Skills in Genealogy course. The Donn Devine Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Charlie Wilson of Sutton, Massachusetts, and provides free tuition to attend the GRIP Genealogy Institute. You can read more about the recipients and the scholarships on the NGS UpFront blog.
REWARD YOURSELF: If you’re ready to treat yourself to an immersive, week-long genealogy education experience, there’s still time to register for GRIP Genealogy Institute expert-led, in-depth courses. My own virtual GRIP experience was beyond my expectations! Even though I’ve been taking (and teaching!) classes and researching for years, Paula Stuart-Warren’s “Digging Deeper” course taught me a lot! And despite it being virtual, the technology faded into the background, creating a lovely personal experience that felt as if we were all in the same room. My next goal is to attend an in-person course! The tough part is deciding which course to take! Scroll down the page at https://grip.ngsgenealogy.org/ for this year’s classes.
NEW TOOLS FOR ORGANIZATIONS: Download the free “Belonging” toolkit full of ideas and tools to celebrate all kinds of family stories and help welcome new members with hopes to keep your club going strong for many years. https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/belonging-inclusion/
INDIVIDUAL MEMBER BENEFITS: Have you checked out all the benefits of individual membership in the National Genealogical Society lately? Just a few are the NGS Magazine, the scholarly journal National Genealogical Society Quarterly (NGSQ), the free Family History Skills online course, free access to NewspaperArchive.com, databases, discounts, and still more! https://pxl.to/NGSindmember
MARCH GENTECH TOOLBOX WORKSHOP: “Transcribing Handwritten Documents with Artificial Intelligence” with Nicole Dyer will be March 16 at 4 pm Eastern. Options include the live program only, live + recording, or recording only (recording will be available through August 13). https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/gentechtoolbox/transcribing-handwritten-documents-with-ai/
