ROOTSTECH WEEK!

This week it’s all about RootsTech 2025! I’m super excited to attend in person again this year! I’ve spent the week in several Zoom calls getting the scoop on next week’s big event, and here are a few tidbits that might help you navigate the conference whether in-person or virtual! (For ALL the info, see the RootsTech website).

THURSDAY:
Classes 8 am – 5:30 pm; Expo Hall 9:00 am – 6:30 pm; General Session (keynotes) 11:00 am; and Night at the Expo Hall 5:30–6:30 PM.
>>>At Night at the Expo Hall on Thursday, from 5:00-6:30 pm, participating exhibitors will feature special deals, discounts and giveaways at the in-person Expo Hall. The online Expo Hall will also include a list of all of the special conference promotional deals being offered at the in-person Expo Hall.

FRIDAY:
Classes 8 am – 5:30 pm; Expo Hall 9am – 6:30 pm; Innovation & Tech Forum 9:30am; General Session (keynotes) 11am; and Industry Highlight Forum 1:30 pm.
>>>The Innovation and Tech Forum will highlight the latest developments from different facets of the industry. You’ll hear about all the latest as well as upcoming family history innovations in brief 7-10 minute talks from companies including Ancestry, MyHeritage, Storied, SOAR, Remento, and Adobe.

SATURDAY:
Classes 8 am – 4 pm; Expo Hall 9am – 6:30 pm; Impact Forum 9:30am; General Session (keynotes) 11am; Family Discovery Day 9am – 3pm, with the Family Discovery Session 1:30pm
>>>The Impact Forum will focus on the deepening impact of family history. You’ll hear about meaningful and personal experiences with family discovery from genealogy expert Lindsay Fulton, award-winning Navajo artist and photographer Mylo Fowler, and five-time Grammy award-winning musician Victor Wooten

Other Details:
On one side of the Expo Hall will be two “Webinar” rooms, where speakers will be recording their presentations, and folks are welcome to attend. Right next to these two rooms will be the always-popular Virtual Reality Experience, where you can walk where your ancestors walked, in virtual reality

Also in the Expo Hall, near the food area, will be a Heritage Stage, with programs of music and dance from various cultures around the world. An Art Exhibit in the Expo Hall will have displays of how people around the world represent their family with art.

Photo scanners will be available for public use in the Society Pavilion area of the Expo Hall.

And an added bonus for in-person attendees this year: They’ve added “800 more nodes to the WiFi” for better coverage!

ROOTSTECH RIDE-ALONG ON SUBSTACK

The burgeoning crowd of family historians and genealogists on Substack can now connect with friends and family during RootsTech using live video, the RootsTech Ride Along. In one to two programs a day from Mar-1 to Mar-8, MissionGenealogy collaborators Robin Stewart and Barbara Tien have invited guest speakers (including me!), both on site and online, to join them in conversation about the show on a series of Substack live stream chat sessions. Because Robin and Barbara also manage publications at GenealogyMatters and Projectkin, all three publications’ subscribers can join the live streams for free! The full schedule can be found at MissionGenealogy.org/events. Registration is unnecessary, but you must be logged into Substack and have a subscription at one or more of the three publications to join the live stream. This will be a great way to keep up with all the new and exciting events, programs, and products at RootsTech!
