This Week’s Genealogy News:
BCG EVENT REGISTRATION SOON
The Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) will be holding their Spring 2025 Putting Skills to Work event in-person only, at the Galt House, Louisville, Kentucky as part of the National Genealogical Society 2025 Family History Conference. Attendance is limited to 60 participants, and the cost is $150. Registration opens at 12 noon Eastern on Monday, December 9, 2024. See the BCG website for full details.
CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN
The Kentucky Genealogical Society has something fun in store for their members in December. Every day between Dec. 5 through 15, members will receive daily tips, insights and strategies “tailored for Kentucky family historians.” The finale will be a webinar on Dec. 16th. KGS events are for members only; dues are only $20.
GIVING TUESDAY
You’ve probably noticed an uptick in emails asking for charitable donations lately. This coming Tuesday is “Giving Tuesday” — “a global initiative that encourages people and organizations to donate their time and money to charitable causes on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the United States.*” Money is always tight for many of us, but when I do have something to spare, I join yet another genealogical society. I think I belong to about seven at the moment, yet none of them are local to me. They’re societies where my ancestors lived, or those whose webinars I have particularly enjoyed, or who offer access to subscription sites as a member benefit. Please consider donating to or joining a genealogical society this year. Many smaller societies struggle and every penny helps. Larger societies often use donated funds to help further digitization or other projects that can benefit everyone. And even better than a donation — volunteer to help out! (*bing.com)

Holy cow – December starts this weekend! Time sure flies when you’re having fun. One of my fun projects this week was the launch of a new genealogy podcast “Branching Out” that I’m co-hosting with Elizabeth Swanay O’Neal (find it on most all podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple, Amazon, and YouTube). Of course I can’t help but talk about ConferenceKeeper! Now, repeating what I said last week for emphasis — Please know that I am grateful for all the submissions and support received year-round, and especially grateful to be able to continue to provide this service. As always, feel free to send questions, corrections, comments, or concerns to me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org. I always appreciate submissions, updates, corrections and suggestions!
