APPGEN SPRING CLASSES
The Applied Genealogy Institute has announced their Spring 2025 courses. AppGen’s courses offer small, virtual classes; useful homework assignments, and helpful teacher-student interactions. Registration is open January 15-22, 2025.
STUDY GROUP SIGNUP
Registration is now open for the 2025 session. Led by Cari Taplin and Cyndi Ingle, this group meets monthly and will examine one National Genealogical Society Quarterly (NGSQ) journal article per month, with a focus on principles taught in Mastering Genealogical Proof (MGP) by Tom Jones. FAMILYSEARCH ANNIVERSARY
On November 13, FamilySearch International celebrated 130 years since its founding, as the Genealogical Society of Utah. Always innovators in the genealogy world, they began microfilming important records around the world in 1938 and have continued being a major force for family history research since. They completed digitizing their 2.4 million rolls of microfilm in 2021, but didn’t stop there. The latest innovation is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to search and access data in records that have not yet been manually transcribed. NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
- Karen Molohon has been appointed to the NGS Board of Directors as the 2024-2026 vice president for society and organization management.
- The next Delegate Council meeting will be Nov. 21 at 8 pm ET, via Zoom. This is an excellent opportunity for society delegates to get updates from NGS, connect with other delegates, with time for Q&A and discussion. Delegates should have received an email to sign up for the Zoom session — if you have any questions, please contact Kate Smith at ksmith@ngsgenealogy.org.
- NGS is accepting nominations until Dec. 15 for several awards, including the Rabbi Malcolm H. Stern Lifetime Achievement Award; Fellow of the National Genealogical Society; Lou D. Szucs Distinguished Service Award; The Shirley Langdon Wilcox Award for Exemplary Volunteerism, and several others. See the website for full details and nomination instructions.
