NEW DIGS FOR GRIP
The GRIP Genealogy Institute announced a big change to their in-person program in 2025 — They’re moving to the University of Pittsburgh! It sounds like an excellent upgrade for GRIP attendees — access to a law library, the Heinz History Center, better food, and better air conditioning in the dorms (a big plus since it will be July in Pennsylvania!). Registration hasn’t opened yet, but you can check out all the 2025 courses, both in-person and virtual, on the GRIP website.
NEW APG FELLOWSHIP
The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) has established a new $2,500 fellowship to encourage cultural immersion and promote the international scope of the APG. Applicants must have been an APG member for 3 years or more, and the Fellowship must be undertaken outside of the country of member’s legal residence. Applications for the first award are due 31 January 2025. Full details here.
GIVING BACK FOR ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS
We’ve talked before about Vivid-Pix’s work in Photo Reminiscence Therapy (pRT) research and their collaboration with organizations such as the National Institute for Dementia Education and CERTUS Institute. They’ve recently announced that during November, for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, they’ll be donating 5% of their sales to the Alzheimer’s Association from November 1 through December 3 (“Giving Tuesday”). “Each step Vivid-Pix takes is fueled by caring, hope and determination to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the aging population and their caregivers.” Details can be found here.
NOT FREE, BUT ALMOST
Our friends at Family Tree Magazine (UK) are offering a 3-month membership to the Family Tree Plus program for only £3 (which is approx. $3.88 US). I took advantage of a similar offer a while back and was really impressed with the quality and amount of content – my particular favorites were the DNA webinars and their Tech Tools group. This “Plus” program includes Live online meetings, groups, & webinars, 100s of ‘how to’ articles, 100+ hours of expert videos, plus a member newsletter, discounts and other offers. Details here.
WAYBACK IS BACK
After being down for an extended period following a cyberattack in early October, Internet Archive (archive.org) seems to be back online, including the Wayback Machine too!
I ALMOST FORGOT!
This week I updated the Podcasts page — it should be much more usable now. I’ll be getting the YouTube page done soon. So here’s a question: Should the Podcasts and YouTube channels all be on the same page instead of separate ones on ConferenceKeeper? Let me know what you think – Either use the CONTACT form or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org
