This Week’s Genealogy News:

WEEKEND PLANS?

I guess the real question is WHICH genealogy seminar or conference are you attending today, or in the next couple weekends? I counted 11 major events this weekend, 8 next weekend Nov. 1-3, just 1 on Nov. 9, and another 7 on Nov. 16. With so many having virtual options, you can actually reap the benefits of several — just check which are being recorded and which are not (then be sure to clear some time to watch those recordings!). Check the CONFERENCE tab on the ConferenceKeeper website to see which major events are on the horizon.

FREE RESEARCH WEBSITES

FamilySearch shared a blog post this past week titled “Free Genealogy Websites to Elevate Your Research,” listing 46 free websites that can help with just about all areas of genealogy research. I was absolutely flabbergasted to find that ConferenceKeeper.org is the first website mentioned! Check out the article here, and maybe find a new genealogy site or tool to enhance your research.

NEW VOLUNTEER PROJECT

Another new project has been added to the Volunteer pageTestamentos De Murcia. A knowledge of Spanish will help you transcribe over 36,000 wills and testamentary dispositions between the 15th & 19th centuries in Murcia, Spain. As always, if you have ancestors from this area, you may just find them in these files while you’re volunteering!

INCREASE VISIBILITY

If you’re looking to increase the visibility of your genealogy event or product, consider advertising on ConferenceKeeper! Our rates are kept low and affordable, with discount for NGS member societies. Sidebar advertising is always available, and remember that starting in 2025, NGS member societies will get one free 30-day ad each year.

Email sponsorship is another great way to reach your target audience. Our email currently goes out to over 6,500 engaged genealogists, and has fabulous open and click thru rates. Email sponsorships also appear on the weekly blog post too! I’ve opened up reservations for 2025 email sponsorships (2024 is completely full), so plan ahead and email me the Sunday dates you’d like to reserve (with a limit of one per month per advertiser please). There’s a downloadable PDF which details advertising rates, etc., on the menu bar, under HOME > Advertising on ConferenceKeeper.

NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Newly elected NGS President and FamilySearch International’s Chief Genealogical Officer David E. Rencher, AG, CG, FUGA, FIGRS, FNGS, recently received the Italian Heraldic Genealogical Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 36th International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Sciences (ICGHS). The award was given in recognition of Rencher’s life-long work and influence in advancing the field of genealogy.

DELEGATES:   One of the benefits available to Society delegates and administrators is the NGS FORUM, where you can post questions and interact with other society delegates to share information. If you need assistance with FORUM, check out the Help/FAQs page or  Kate Smith at NGS <ksmith@ngsgenealogy.org>.  Include “FORUM” in your email subject line.

OFFICE HOURS: Another member organization benefit is the online Delegate Office Hours, a casual meetup where you’ll get updates from NGS, connect with other delegates, and be able to ask any questions you might have.  RSVP for the upcoming Office Hours on Nov. 4 at 4 pm ET via Zoom — delegates have been emailed the Zoom request link this past week.  If you have any questions, again, email Kate Smith (email in the paragraph above).
