This Week’s Genealogy News:

US non-profit organizations (like many genealogical societies) may apply for a grant from Permanent.org to help provide cloud storage for digital collections, exhibits, or other digital preservation projects. MyHeritage has just acquired MesAieux.com, a popular family history service that specializes in French Canadian genealogy. All historical record content from MesAieux.com will soon be published on MyHeritage. You can read more about this at https://blog.myheritage.com/

FREE COURSE FOR STORYTELLERS

Rhonda Lauritzen and Rachel Trotter at Evalogue Life are offering a free live training series complete with handouts and replays focused on family history storytelling. “The Keeper’s Journey” course will be live Sept. 19, 24 and 26 at 11am MT (12 Central, 1pm Eastern). GENEALOGY COURSES FROM PHAROS TUTORS

Pharos Tutors has added dozens of their upcoming online genealogy courses to our calendar this week. You’ll find virtual multi-session courses on just about every genealogy topic imaginable. They’re listed in this week’s “What’s New” list, or you can always search the calendar by keyword, such as “Pharos”.

MORE THAN JUST PHOTOS

As genealogists we know how important photos can be to help us fill in the stories of our ancestors. But not only is capturing stories from your older relatives important for posterity, it actually can help seniors with brain health too! A press release I received this week announced another study on “Brain Health and Photo Reminiscence Therapy” being conducted by the National Institute for Dementia Education (NIDE)’s Standards of Excellence (SOE) Council, CERTUS Institute, and our good friends at Vivid-Pix. Read more about their important work in the area here, and definitely take advantage of the free trial of their Memory Station software, which allows you to add audio of stories and memories you tell in your own voice using digitized photos you already have on your computer or from your own scanner.
