WEBTEMBER IS HERE!

NEW PODCASTS & YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Three new podcasts were added this week, all dealing with NPEs (Non-Paternity Events). See the podcasts page on the website for NPE Stories, Missing Pieces – NPE Life, and DNA Surprises. New to the YouTube page is a channel that provides Genealogist General training for SAR registrars/genealogists (Sons of the American Revolution).

LIVE CHAT WITH A GENEALOGIST

Did you know that American Ancestors has a free ‘Live Chat’ feature on their website, available Monday through Saturday 9 am to 5 pm ET? Just enter your question in the chat box during the times listed, and one of their expert genealogists will respond. You can access the feature directly here, or find it on the home page of the American Ancestors website, scroll down just a bit to the “Stay in Touch” section, where “Ask a Genealogist – Live Chat!” is one of the options. Click on Chat Now and ask away.

CALENDAR TIPS

I’ve received some questions lately that suggested a couple things about the calendar might need some explanation for optimal use. Since I’m short on news this week, I’ll take this opportunity to clarify them in order to improve your experience using the calendars on ConferenceKeeper.org.

The MAIN calendar, which the “Calendar” button takes you to, includes everything that has been submitted to the website, both in-person AND virtual events. (The Virtual calendar does not include in-person only events, but will include hybrid events that are both in-person and include a virtual option).

The main calendar view defaults to a traditional calendar view with a date grid, with each day’s events listed in the day’s box. But because there can be dozens of events on any given day, all of any given day’s events may not appear at first glance. If there are more events than are showing, in the lower right of each day’s calendar box will be a tiny “+MORE” button. When clicked on, that day will expand to show you ALL events for that day.

If you don’t really care for this traditional calendar view, at the top right side of the green calendar background you’ll see the options Pinboard / Agenda / Monthly. Try out the other views to see which you prefer. Personally, I like the “Agenda” view. If you’re going to use the “Search” box on the left side, the Agenda view works best, since it doesn’t limit the results to the current month. If there are lots of search results, or events for that day or month, be sure to click on the Load More Events button at the very bottom of the calendar view.
