MORE SEATS ADDED FOR JUNE A.I. TOOLKIT WORKSHOP

The June 20th NGS A.I. Toolkit workshop, “Use AI to Research Historical Documents & Letters,” with Mark Thompson, has added a few more seats for those interested. More workshops are anticipated to be announced in the future. https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/ai/aitoolboxworkshop/

LFT GENEALOGY SOFTWARE NOW FREE!

Legacy Family Tree (yep, the folks with webinars) has released version 10 of their genealogy software, and now offering it free to download! I’m excited to try out the new “FAN Club Report” and other new features in this latest update. Download it for free at https://legacyfamilytree.com/

FREE A.I. PROGRAMS FROM LIBRARY OF VIRGINIA

The Library of Virginia is hosting two upcoming virtual programs that caught my eye – “Using AI & ChatGPT in History Research” on July 12, and “Envisioning Ancestors with AI” on August 10. The August 10 program is a hands-on workshop, first discussing LVA’s “Virginia Untold: The African American Narrative” project, then demonstrating AI tools to generate images of black and multiracial people based on the descriptions in the collections (or from your own historical descriptions). Both are on the ConferenceKeeper calendars and have limited space available, so register soon if interested.

NEW STATE RESEARCH GUIDEBOOKS

NGS has recently release two new books in their “Research in the States” series: Research in Hawaii by Darcie Hind Posz, CG, FASG, and Research in Maine, by Eva Holmes, CG, AG. State research guides make wonderful research companions when researching in a new-to-you state. These guidebooks include detailed information on state resources including business, census, and court records; institutional, military, and vital records; directories and newspapers; plus advice for researching female ancestors. Website address, physical address, and telephone number are included for each resource. On the NGS website (ngsgenealogy.org), log in or create a free account, then go to Store > Books > Research in the States.

WIN MINNESOTA STATE FAIR TICKETS

The Minnesota Genealogical Society is looking for a genealogy/family history-related image or cluster of images to promote the society for the 8′ x 4′ backdrop they’ll use at their booth at the Minnesota State Fair, Aug. 22 thru Sept. 2. Winning entry will receive free tickets to the Minnesota State Fair! (See our Contest page for details.)
