I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but Christmas is in just over 100 days (106 to be more precise). If you’re planning on creating a family history gift, perhaps compiling a few generations with stories and photos, you might want to get started 🙂 Some libraries offer photo scanning services, if you don’t have your own scanner — I’ve noticed several in-person scanning events added to the calendar lately. Below are just a few ideas from upcoming events on our calendar (there are many more!) that may help you decide on a neat project to gift your family.
- Sept 13 – Family History Project Ideas from ProjectKin. They aren’t selling anything and aren’t associated with any specific company or platform – it’s a free community of family historians sharing ideas on how to preserve and share photos and memories. (Free)
- Sept. 16 – Telling Your Family Story with Google Earth, with Tamara Hallo, presented by the Whittier Area Genealogical Society (Free)
- Sept. 20 – Lisa Lisson’s Cracking the Family Photo Code – From Stories to Faces – Learn how to identify who is in your old family photos, find clues, add metadata to them and how to digitally restore them. ($)
