Saturdays in particular are absolutely packed with events, averaging over 50 different programs or webinars every Saturday in October, on just about any and every genealogy topic imaginable! NEW MAPPING & TIMELINE TOOL FOR GENEALOGISTS
Trackuback.com
is offering a free webinar (today) Sunday October 2, to help you learn about the free and paid options that this neat website has to offer. https://www.facebook.com/events/406159068349385

INDEX-A-THON
The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society is hosting a special 36 hours of indexing the New York Land Records Project, November 14-16. Volunteers can participate from either the NYG&B office, or from the comfort of your own home via FamilySearch’s web-based tools. Be sure to sign up at https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/594706190671550057/false#/invitation

LIBRARIES: MORE THAN JUST BOOKS
Arlington Public Library in Texas has a new Retro Technology Lab, with digitizing equipment available for public use. “The goal is to enable folks to easily transfer precious family memories from old media (video cassettes, 8mm film, photos, negatives, slides, & more) to digital files to better preserve & share them.” They’re having some free in-person programs to teach folks how to use the equipment.  While you might not live near Arlington, or even in Texas at all, why not check with your own local library to see if anything like that might be available in your area, and if not, maybe let them know how awesome it would be! If you’re looking for your own personal scanning center, see what all Vivid-Pix.com (currently one of our advertisers too) has to offer. Without sounding like an ad myself, let’s just say they definitely have solutions for every photo problem.

SOCIETIES: MORE THAN JUST MEETINGS
I’ve been a huge supporter of genealogical societies for a long time, and ConferenceKeeper is proof of that. The most common reason folks join a society is often for the camaraderie with other like-minded folks who also love to both talk about and listen to family history stories. But society membership can also be rewarding in many other ways. For some reason this week I started noticing the benefits of different society memberships more than usual.  Did you realize that many societies offer their members access to several of the major commercial genealogy websites, which you can access from your own home?  Different societies have various offerings, but even if you join two or three additional societies at a cost of $25-$40 a year each, you’re still savings hundreds of dollars on subscriptions to websites like Ancestry, MyHeritage, AmericanAncestors, Fold3, HeritageQuest, and HistoryGeo, to name a few.  Some societies offer a few hours of volunteer research in their own or nearby major genealogy libraries. Many have their own local databases – often information that can’t be found anywhere else — available online for members only.  The next time you sign up to participate in a society’s free webinar, take a few minutes to also check out their website and see what other member benefits they offer.

ADS AND NOT ADS
I hope y’all know that none of the websites, webinars, programs, or societies that I might talk about in this weekly newsletter have asked, or paid for, these mentions.  This newsletter is strictly my vehicle to convey useful and interesting information that I’ve come across in the course of the previous week while scouring the internet for more genealogy events.  Paid advertisements are found on the sidebars of the website and on our Thank You page here: https://conferencekeeper.org/advertise.  Please check out these genealogy societies and businesses who are helping to support ConferenceKeeper.org!   If you’d like your own ad on ConferenceKeeper, please email info@conferencekeeper.org for the details.

As always, please feel free to email me if you’ve got any suggestions or questions. You can use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org. I always sincerely appreciate your input! And as always, thank you for reading 🙂
