. . . . . .

Despite a typical summer slowdown of genealogy events, I added 110 new genealogy events to the calendar this past week.  Genealogy is the perfect activity when it’s just too hot to be outside! You can find at least eleven genealogy Conferences on the calendar in August alone, with more than half of them either being entirely virtual or having a live-stream option. See the “”CONFERENCE” tab on the website for the list. Plus lots of workshops and seminars! (You can search for the word Seminar (or any keyword) in any of the boxes in the upper left of the green calendar pages.

How to search the “green” calendars

Summer also brings about many local society picnics and social events, so maybe check out your State’s page and see what local events might be happening near you. This reminds me of a genealogy treasure that I inherited — It’s a small, handwritten journal starting in the late 1800s and going thru about the mid 1900s, titled “Minutes of the Eaton-Allen Reunion” (Ashtabula/Trumbull Counties, Ohio).  While it has provide a LOT of clues, sadly the multiple authors were more interested in what flavor ice cream was voted on for next year’s get together than they were in capturing the details I’m hunting for.  It does list many names, but most I have to do a lot of research to figure out. Many references are horribly vague: “Mary and her daughter” or  “John’s son came from Chicago.” It reminds me of those word puzzles that say things like “If Suzy is three years older than Todd, how tall is Bob’s brother.”

Please also note that there might possibly NOT be a newsletter next week. I’m off to Tucson to visit Dad (98) for the week. Trading daily thunderstorms in North Carolina for some dry Arizona heat!

That’s all from me for this week. If you have ANY comments, suggestions or questions,  please use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org. I always sincerely appreciate your input! And as always, thank you for reading 🙂

– Tami Osmer Mize
