What’s New on our calendar to March 7, 2021

March 7, 2021

Once again, over 100 new events added this past week, which puts us well over 1,000 webinars on the calendar currently. However it still pales in comparison to the thousands of recorded presentations and sessions still available on RootsTech.org –  watch & listen to as many as you’d like for free for the rest of 2021! I’ll try not to talk too much more about RootsTech, but it really is such an awesome resource even now, after the 3 days of the Conference!

. . . . . .

A little housekeeping

Virtual events are now being indicated on the website calendars by a (V) rather than VIRTUAL. This leaves a little more room for the presentation titles.

Please remember that ConferenceKeeper.org is not associated with any of the events listed on the calendar. If you have any issues with registering for an event, please contact the event hosts directly.

Hopefully you’ve signed up for our weekly email – it’s free and only goes out once a week. We don’t send any other emails unless it absolutely can’t wait another week, and we don’t sell anything. Thanks to the generous support of our users, ConferenceKeeper.org remains completely free for everyone to use.

As always, if you have suggestions or comments, please feel free to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me!

. . . . . .

The original “virtual” genealogy

The original “virtual” genealogy events–long before webinars started being considered “Virtual”–were held in the online virtual world called SecondLife (www.SecondLife.com). I helped charter the first Virtual chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists in SecondLife, and later, the SecondLife Virtual Genealogical Society (SLVGS – the first virtual society of FGS).

If you’re tired of Zoom, consider checking out SecondLife. It is free to use – there is a paid option, but not at all necessary to attend and participate in all of our genealogy events (which are on the ConferenceKeeper calendar, by the way). DearMYRTLE has a fun video from a couple years back that shows how to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7hMK345in4

SecondLife is NOT just a genealogy website. It is an entirely user-created world that is constantly growing and changing. There are genealogy areas, including Dear MYRTLE’s “Just Genealogy” where SLVGS meetings are held on the second Sunday evening of every month.

This coming Sunday, March 14, at 5:30 pm Pacific time, The SLVGS group will be having a special presentation on the “21 Day Family Connections Experiment” (See https://slvirtualgenealogy.org/ for more information). Everyone is invited. And if you want to learn how to sit, stand, walk (and maybe even fly) beforehand, I’ll be hosting an informal hangout for just that purpose at the “Just Genealogy Fire Pit” at 4:30 pm Pacific (7:30 pm Eastern) on the Wednesday before, on March 10.  (I’m Genie Weezles in SecondLife!)

Events Added Just This Past Week:

See the calendar pages at ConferenceKeeper.org for the complete listings of upcoming genealogy events.

Please remember that ConferenceKeeper.org is not associated with any of the events listed, but provides the information as a service. And, this may come as a surprise, but I do occasionally make mistakes 🙂  Please verify an event’s information and details on the hosting party’s website. If you need any assistance regarding a specific event, please contact the hosts.
