This Week’s Genealogy News:

(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate.)

This week’s newsletter and list of new events will be much shorter than usual. I recently experienced a loss in my family, and I appreciate your understanding and patience as I have taken some time to be with loved ones.

BCG APPLICATION GUIDE UPDATED

The Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) this week released its updated 2025 Application Guide, which goes into effect on July 1, 2025. New applicants must now submit their work in two phases, with updated requirements like a descending narrative lineage for kinship projects and clearer guidelines for DNA use and research reports[. Current associates have flexibility—those renewing before July 2026 can choose the old or new guidelines, while later renewals follow the 2025 rules. The new Guide includes the requirements for the Certified Genetic Genealogist (CGG) credential, as well as updated requirements for the Certified Genealogical Lecturer (CGL) credentials.  BCG will present a webinar through Legacy family Tree Webinars on August 5 about the 2025 Application Guide. I’ll do my best to add it to the calendar and mention it in this newsletter once the details and registration are available.

AGING SYMPOSIUM

If you’re aging, or have elderly relatives (who isn’t/doesn’t?) you’ll benefit from the videos of the recent Aging and Family History Symposium, hosted by Vivid-Pix, FamilySearch, and the National Genealogical Society, which addressed topics surrounding healthy aging, including how the family history community can help our local communities and the aging population. The symposium offers important information for both individuals and societies. Watch an overview video, and/or the recordings of all of the sessions, here: https://www.vivid-pix.com/ngs-symposium/
