. . . . . .
This week has been a challenge, for sure, but thanks to all who submitted events this week, there are still 137 new genealogy events added. My laptop quit working on Monday, and the computer doctor sent it off to have the motherboard replaced. I had to laugh that I felt the same pangs of sadness when I left it at the shop, as I used to when I’d have to leave my kids at daycare. Fortunately I’ve been able to get some work done on a borrowed computer, although it feels a little like working with my hands tied, not having all of shortcut keys and macros set up on it! I haven’t really sent out a request for donations in a long time, but if you’re so inclined, it would really help to pay the ransom… I mean repair bill … when it’s done hopefully at the end of this week 😊
MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
Registration opens Wednesday, February 22 for this year’s Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP) courses. Registration for the week of virtual classes in June begins at 12 noon Eastern time, and registration for the in-person week of classes in July begins at 2:00 pm Eastern. Check out the website well ahead of time to know which course you want to take, and how to be prepared for registration when it opens. (Check out the new ad on our website for the GRIP course taught by Gena Philibert-Ortega and KB Barcomb!) https://www.gripitt.org/
NEW ADDITIONS
One new YouTube channel was added this week, titled “Storied.” Storied.com is a new genealogy website for writing, collecting and sharing your family stories. I’m looking forward to finding out more about them, and will definitely check out their booth at RootsTech in just a couple weeks!
This week, BillionGraves has shared a new contest to win an in-person pass to RootsTech, too, so if you’re thinking of going, be sure to enter (See our Contests page).
ROOTSTECH
And speaking of RootsTech, information I’ve received thus far suggests that it’s going to be just as big and fabulous and fun as any of the pre-Covid in-person events. They’re already suggesting attendance of around 25,000, which is just a few shy of record years. Not all of the in-person classes and content will be part of the Virtual event, and vice-versa, so if you are able to go to Salt Lake City, do consider it – the virtual courses should be available for a long time, but the opportunity to be in-person is just three days in March (2-4).
EASTERN EUROPEAN RESEARCH?
If you’ve got a Ukrainian or other Slovakian research puzzle, you can get free help from the Ukrainian History & Education Center’s Virtual Office Hours. They hold these fairly regularly, with another coming up February 21. You can even send them photos of documents, heirlooms, or other materials ahead of time so they can maybe get answers for you by the online meeting time – and it’s all free. See this month’s details at pxl.to/z3hou33a
As always, please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions. Have a great week!
