100k NEW IRISH BURIAL RECORDS

Over 100,000 new burial records from 27 graveyards in Cork County, Ireland, have been digitized and added to a free database by the Cork County Council’s Skibbereen Heritage Centre. All records can be accessed free of charge at www.skibbheritage.com

DATABASE UPDATED

According to a news release, just this week Harvard University has updated the Harvard Slavery Remembrance Program (HSRP), a free online database, with information on 1,613 people who were enslaved by Harvard leaders, faculty, or staff (or who labored on campus as enslaved individuals) between 1636 and 1865. It lists names, places, and known dates, and also links people to the Harvard affiliates who enslaved them, which may give genealogists strong leads for tracing families and identifying descendants. It will become part of the 10 Million Names project, but if your research focuses on New England or Colonial-era Massachusetts, the HSRP may help narrow your search results. You can read the full article here, and learn more about the HSRP database and explore it as well, at the Harvard & the Legacy of Slavery website https://legacyofslaveryreport.harvard.edu/

TRIBUTE REELS

MyHeritage just introduced “Tribute Reels,” an easy way to turn up to 15 photos (with optional music) into a meaningful video for a milestone or in remembrance of someone special. I tried it with photos of my dad—101 years in 15 photos—and, even after seeing these pictures countless times, the reel brought both my sister and me to tears. The AI generated photo animation isn’t for everyone, but it really brought those photos to life for me. Try it out at https://www.myheritage.com/tribute-reel
