This Week’s Genealogy News:
(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate.)
This week’s newsletter is going to be a bit different than usual, as I’ve been in Salt Lake City all week attending RootsTech. Each day has been so completely full of activity: attending programs and events, learning about all the new products and innovations in the Expo Hall, meeting new people and catching up with long-time friends from all over (probably my favorite part).
You hopefully know that the online classes for RootsTech 2025 will be available to view for at least a year (and most likely longer), but the deals being offered in the Virtual Expo Hall will end soon (some as soon as Sunday March 9!), so I really encourage you to check out all the vendors and the deals being offered (here).
Many of the vendors this year are offering ways to create books from your family stories and memories, and each offers something a little different from the next. Be sure to check them all out in the Virtual Expo Hall and decide which is best for your needs. Just a couple that stood out to me are Remento, whose printed books also include a QR code on each page so the reader has the option to hear the original audio and/or video of the person sharing their memories. Storied.com has a very easy interface for creating books, and is offering 50% off to virtual attendees and a FREE book for in-person attendees. And one other that was new to me is Lore – Their easy program turns your family stories into a children’s book with really cute AI-generated images. The sample I saw was the story of “How Mommy & Daddy Met.” The layout and artwork are really cute, and will introduce young ones to your family history stories in a very simplified and engaging way. I’m also happy to see how easy it is to make a book at MyHeritage now too!
I could write volumes on all of the booths that I’ve visited and folks that I’ve talked to, but I’m really exhausted and just trying to give some highlights here 🙂 I do want to mention one other booth and new product that I was quite interested in (and is offering a free trial): Genealogy Genie AI. This program is like an AI research assistant that assesses your data and then gives you details of record loss and availability; advises of any legal restrictions at the time/area; suggests possible relationships from FANs; flags unlikely or impossible events; and suggests not only what records to look at but also where you can find them. The results from each project are created from the genealogy data that you provide, and you don’t have to create prompts or instructions. Plus, the folks behind it are avid, experienced, and well-respected genealogists. Can’t wait to try this out myself!
And if you’ve been thinking about the Memory Station Software from Vivid-Pix — or any of their wonderful products — now is the time to take advantage of their really excellent discounts for RootsTech (through March 30). (I love my ScanSnap scanner!)
There are really many fabulous products, programs, companies and societies exhibiting! Please be sure to check them all out, and soon — before these PROMOTIONS end! And I promise that next week I’ll get back to genealogy community news!!

I’ll mention this again: I receive no remuneration of any kind from anyone for products mentioned here. Mentions are not to be considered endorsements either — These are just things I thought you might also be interested in. Next week’s newsletter will return to the regular genealogy news as usual.
