What’s New on Our Calendar to July 30, 2023

135 new genealogy events were added to our calendar this past week!
>>The list of ALL the NEWLY ADDED events is further down this post.<<
See the full CALENDAR or VIRTUAL CALENDAR for
ALL of the upcoming genealogy events.

. . . . . .

It’s hot outside, and when I do brave the North Carolina heat + humidity, I’m mosquito food! Good enough excuses, I think, to stay inside and work on genealogy research — this week I’ve been building a two-color timeline using an Excel XY scatter chart to compare the events and locations of two of my Allen ancestors in hopes to find a relationship and ultimately their parents. It’s always fun to learn something new that might further your research! And where else can you find so many great genealogy education opportunities as on the ConferenceKeeper calendars??!!!

As always, information below contains no affiliate links and is not any kind of paid advertising, but is being shared because I think it’s good genealogy news to know!

> GOOD NEWS FOR IDAHO

After the pandemic all but shut down their society since 2019, the Idaho Genealogical Society is currently in the process of reorganization and reactivation! Plans for hybrid meetings are in the works, so keep an eye out on ConferenceKeeper and on their website www.idahogenealogy.org

> CALENDAR OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN EVENTS

After noticing a swell in events about African American research, I created a calendar specific to this topic. You can find it under the “CALENDAR” tab in the top menu bar, or at https://conferencekeeper.org/africanamerican/

Remember, every calendar is easily searchable for keywords: When you search in the little box in the upper left, it will bring up a calendar of events that include your search word.

>  DNA INTENSIVES!

Like the new African American-specific calendar, there’s already a DNA-specific calendar at www.ConferenceKeeper.org/dna (also under the CALENDAR tab in the menu bar) where you’ll find hundreds of upcoming programs on DNA of all kinds, from small discussion groups to full-size conferences. I thought I’d list some of the upcoming seminars, conferences & multi-session classes that are specifically on DNA.

  • Aug 05 “So I Have My DNA Results – What Do I Do Now?” with Michelle Leonard – Missouri State Genealogical Association Annual Conference (in-person)($)
  • Aug 6-14 DNA I: Introduction to Genetic Genealogy (online course) presented by JewishGen Education ($)

  • August 21-25 Virtual DNA Summer School with The North of Ireland Family History Society: Week-long, 2 classes per day M-F (recordings available after), instructors Jonny Perl, Janine Cloud, Martin McDowell, Anne Johnston, and Jim Bartlett. The time difference is not bad for those of us in the Eastern US, either – daily classes are 9 am Eastern and 2 pm Eastern, and will be recorded for viewing for 28 days following the presentation. Courses can be purchased separately or in entirety for a discount.
  • Sep 23   (In-Person) Beginning Genetic (DNA) Genealogy: A Lecture Series presented by Wichita Genealogical Society  ($)

That’s all for this week — I feel like I’m forgetting something, but I’ll probably remember as soon as I hit “post”. Thank you as always for your support, comments, suggestions, and especially corrections. I read and reply to every message, so if you don’t see a reply in a few days, check your SPAM folder. You may reach me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org  Have a great week!
