This week’s email is kindly being sponsored by the Bucks County Genealogical Society

Pennsylvania has an enticing array of archives. The shelves of these institutions are brimming with information for family historians, waiting to be discovered. Next Saturday, Oct. 7, the 2023 Ancestry Fair of the Bucks County Genealogical Society will take a close look at a number of these remarkable collections through the eyes of Aaron McWilliams, Nancy “Sassy Jane” Loe, Beth Lander and Tom Myer.

See the BCGS website for full details!

🔵 A PERFECT START TO FAMILY HISTORY MONTH!
October is Family History Month, and I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that ConferenceKeeper.org is now officially part of the National Genealogical Society (NGS)! For all of the users and followers of ConferenceKeeper, there will only be a couple of noticeable changes. But first, what won’t change is, well, me. I will still be managing the website, answering your emails, and writing this weekly newsletter. You may have already noticed the first change: the addition of NGS to the ConferenceKeeper masthead and logo. Also, on the event submission form, you’ll now find a Yes/No/Unsure box for whether your society is a member of NGS — member societies’ events will be listed first on the blog post’s weekly list of newly added events, by date, followed by all other new events for the week. Member societies will also receive discounted rates on sidebar and email sponsorship advertising.

I can’t even begin to explain how much I appreciate having the strength and support of NGS for ConferenceKeeper. I’m excited about the future, and as always I’d love to hear from you with any comments, and especially any suggestions for making ConferenceKeeper the best and most helpful it can be. I truly thank you all for your support!

🔵 MORE OCTOBER FUN
Be sure to look over the entire October calendar — many societies, libraries and genealogy businesses are hosting special events — even more webinars and programs this month than usual!

One very special series of events is being presented by Vivid-Pix in partnership with several societies and libraries. Try to attend one of the Scanapalooza and Family Storytelling Events being held in Texas, Arizona, Utah, Missouri, Wisconsin or Indiana! Bring your photos to scan, learn more about photo organization, digital photography, storytelling, preserving your family history, and photo reminiscence therapy, and more!! See the list of events at https://www.vivid-pix.com/events/

🔵 ROOTSTECH 24/7
Registration is open for RootsTech 2024, both in-person and virtual. But did you realize that there are still over over 1,500 free, on-demand sessions from RootsTech 2023 available to watch online? That’s a LOT of learning to catch up on before the next thousand or so classes arrive in 2024!

Don’t forget, the discounted $99 rate for the in-person event ends November 17. Yes, there will be pass giveaways this year, but it is being handled a bit differently (and as always, if you’ve already purchased a pass, they will reimburse you if you win). Watch our Facebook page this week for the details (as soon as I get them!).

🔵 FOR DONNY OSMOND FANS…
This weekend (Sunday, October 1 at 12 noon Mtn/1 pm Central/2 pm Eastern), a new Osmond family documentary, “The Osmonds: Faith, Family and Fame,” will air and be available on KSLTV.com and the KSL YouTube channel . I heard Donny Osmond speak at RootsTech a few years ago, and really enjoyed his story of his family and family history (see how I tied this in to genealogy? lol).

🔵 IGHR 2024
The Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) has announced the list of 13 courses being offered for 2024 – all virtually – July 21 through July 26, 2024. Cyndi Ingle (Cyndi’s List) was recently appointed Executive Director of the institute. Registration opens March 9. See the course list (and more) at https://ighr.gagensociety.org/ighr-courses/

🔵 CONFERENCES THIS WEEK

. . . . . .

Please continue to send your comments, suggestions, and especially corrections. Your input is always truly appreciated! You may reach me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org Have a great week!
