🔵 NEW COURSE STARTS THIS WEEK
The National Genealogical Society (NGS) has a new online course starting this week: “Empowering Genealogists with Artificial Intelligence.” The Monday sessions have sold out already, and a new session has been added, running 12:30-2 pm (Eastern time) on Wednesdays, Oct 25, Nov. 1, 8 and 15. There is also an option to purchase a recorded version of the course. Full details at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/ai/

🔵 60 MILLION PUBLIC RECORDS
Don’t you hate it when you finally realize where you need to look for that elusive ancestor’s info, then find out you aren’t allowed to access the records? Meet “Reclaim the Records,” a not-for-profit group of genealogists and others who identify records that should be publicly available at archives, libraries or other government agencies, then work fiercely to get that public data released back to the public. Sometimes it’s just filing Freedom of Information and Open Data requests, but if that doesn’t work, they take them to court! Their work has resulted in more than sixty million records being made available to the public — us genealogists! You can find the lists of records they’ve recovered on their website, with links to where those records are now available. Fingers crossed they’ve uncovered what you’re looking for! Check it out here at https://www.reclaimtherecords.org/records-request/ AND you can learn even more about the organization at this month’s Marin County Genealogical Society hybrid meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26. (7:00pm PT / 7:00pm AZ(MtnStd) / 8:00pm MT / 9:00pm CT / 10:00pm ET / 3:00am UK)
MCGS meetings are free and open to the public, but registration is required.

🔵 AWESOME LIBRARY JOB OPENING
I mentioned in a previous news letter that Susan Kaufman has left her position as manager of the Family History Research Center at the Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research. The City of Houston is seeking applicants for the position. Among other requirements, the successful applicant must have a  Master of Library Science degree from a school accredited by the American Library Association.  Applications are only being accepted through this Thursday, Oct. 27. Details and links for this and other genealogy jobs are on our Jobs page at https://conferencekeeper.org/genealogy-jobs/

🔵 PODCAST MILESTONE
Congrats to Kathleen Brandt, A3 Genealogy, whose “Hittin’ the Bricks with Kathleen” podcast hit the 1,000 download mark this past week! You can find Kathleen’s podcast, along with dozens of other genealogy podcasts on our Podcasts page, or her podcast page directly – here.
