You have a story to tell, and this live class, held over 4 weeks, will give you practice, confidence, and tools to get it done in 2024. By course end, you will have written and edited a personal story – your own, an ancestor’s, or another loved one’s.  Class starts January 11 – replays will be available for all sessions.
Join us to kick off your best year of storytelling!

While holiday celebrations with family can be hectic, they’re also a great time to learn more about your family history. It’s easy to get comfortable with our research and our own family memories, but be sure to get a bigger picture and maybe find a few surprising details you didn’t know about your family. You’d be surprised how many different stories you’ll hear when you ask what folks remember about a specific event! Plan ahead just a little, and be ready with questions. StoryCorp has been collecting stories and memories for over 20 years now, and they have some great tips on how to get conversations started.

Another great source for all things photo and memories is the Vivid-Pix website. Most folks know them for their great photo-restoration software, “RESTORE,” but on their website you’ll also find tons of fabulous information and education, including several ways to create family history time capsules, and family-history-centered fun and games for everyone from the littlest kids to the most senior seniors.

Photographs are such a great conversation starter, so be sure to have your phone or tablet full of photos to share. You can often engage the younger generation with some of the really helpful as well as fun photo tools that MyHeritage offers — make your photos speak with DeepStory, animate them with Deep Nostalgia, transform modern photos into historical portraits with AI Time Machine – or take advantage of PhotoStoryteller and add audio narrative to your photos… and other tools too!

Take LOTS of photos and let people take photos of you. Make recordings, ask the kids to draw pictures of the family. Collect memories. If you’re visiting others, maybe bring a portable scanner with you, or at the very least use your smartphone scanner app or even just the camera to add photos and document images that may be shared.

More than anything though, enjoy the time you’re able to spend with family and friends this holiday season. I hope that you all have a joyous holiday season filled with cherished moments with family and the opportunity to celebrate your family history. May this time be a source of warmth, love, and connection as you create new memories and reflect on the traditions and stories that have shaped your family. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
