This week’s email is being sponsored by  Vivid-Pix, with a special message for this holiday season:  Over 8.8 million Americans have Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and more than 55 million people live with dementia worldwide. Families and friends strive to spend time with them, including them in activities during the holidays and all year long. Vivid-Pix worked with experts to create education and solutions to capture memories, creating multi-generational conversation, and have included gift ideas with this philosophy in mind. Find the perfect gift at https://www.vivid-pix.com/giftguide/
You can read more about their research studies on Photo Reminiscence Therapy at https://www.einnews.com/pr_news/606531344/gifts-that-help-alzheimer-s-families-capture-memories

THIS WEEK’S NEW EVENTS

It makes sense that there will be a large variety of subjects when over 170 new events are added to the calendar, but – and I know I say this almost every week – there are so many interesting genealogy topics in this week’s newly added events, and several conferences and seminars with really wonderful speakers lined up.  One of the topics I’ve seen in a couple of presentations coming up  is Related Faces – it’s an artificial intelligence tool that scans your photos, isolates faces, and then tries to find other photos in their database that may be a match. What a thrill it would be to be able to identify some of those unknown relatives in photos!

GENEALOGY RESEARCH GRANTS

American Society of Genealogists has submitted information for their 2023 grant opportunities. Grants of $2,500  and “are intended to assist with those projects sitting unfinished (or unstarted) on every genealogist’s “back burner” for lack of financial aid to help cover researching and writing time, costs of copies, fees, travel, and other usual expenses associated with genealogical research and publication.” Details and links for this and other Awards Grants and Scholarships at https://conferencekeeper.org/grants-scholarships/

LEARNING FROM OTHER GENEALOGISTS

Genealogy Quick Start has posted their next 8 programs, into March of 2023. These are live interviews with genealogists, and a great place to learn new research tips.  See all their events on our calendar, and also on their facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/GenealogyQuickStartTV/

LFTW’s FREE MONTHLY GENEALOGY CONFERENCE

Next Saturday, December 24, is the monthly free genealogy conference from Legacy Family Tree Webinars, with several webinars made available for free on a specific topic – this month it is on Census Records.  https://familytreewebinars.com/conference/

GETTING MORE FROM THE WEBSITE

I’m excited for 2023 – it already looks to be an excellent year for genealogy education.  Take a few minutes and think about what you might want to learn more about to enhance your research, and search the calendar for keywords to see what events are scheduled. Do you have a favorite speaker (or two)?  Use the search box in the upper left of a green calendar section with their surname.  Have you tried viewing the calendar in Agenda mode? How about the Pinboard? You can easily change the viewing option in the upper right of the green calendar box also. Have you checked out all the website has to offer under the “Other Events & Opportunities” tab?  The website is more than just the calendars!

. . . . . .

THANKS FOR READING!

I have to say I was honestly surprised at how many people entered the DNA kit giveaway that was kind of hidden in the text of last week’s email. (If you’re reading this on the website Blog page, you might want to sign up for the email too).  What surprised me is that there were more entries for that giveaway than the previous one which was also shared on Facebook and Twitter! Y’all really DO read my newsletters 🙂  The winner has been notified and replied, and the MyHeritage kit is already in the mail.

. . . . . .

THIS IS NOT AN AD…

This is just me commenting on this week’s sponsor — I have been so impressed with all that Vivid-Pix has to offer… so much more than just the great Restore software! Please do take a few minutes to check out all they offer, especially under the “Education” tab on their website.  You’ll find all kinds of education and photo solutions including special programs to help preserve memories of aging loved ones. And when it comes to preserving photos, I absolutely love my Scan Snap scanner, which they feature under their Scanning tab. It’s so incredibly easy and fast! I don’t mean for this to sound like a commercial, and as always I am not an affiliate of any kind, but I really am impressed with the work Vivid-Pix is doing to help save personal memories, which will ultimately benefit future genealogists.

. . . . . .

As always, thank you for reading and following ConferenceKeeper.org.  I hope this coming week is full of peace, happiness, and joy for you.  Please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions. I sincerely appreciate your ideas!
