100 new genealogy events were added to our calendar this past week!
>>The list of ALL the NEWLY ADDED events is further down this post.<<
See the full CALENDAR or VIRTUAL CALENDAR for
ALL of the upcoming genealogy events.
. . . . . .
This week added two new calls for presentations and one pretty cool genealogy job. I’m really thrilled, though, with the variety and quality of the programs on this week’s newly added events list. Some of this week’s additions are programs on Native American, British, Irish, Canadian, Chinese, African American, Hispanic, Polish, and French-Canadian research; Organizing your photos; Salem witches; Civil War pension files; land documents, DNA; organizing your genealogy research and organizing your photos; and several programs on various aspects of writing your family history. Please take a minute to peruse the list. You just might be able to learn that skill you need to push your research forward.
GENEALOGY BOOK CLUBS
If you’re a genealogist AND an avid reader, you might enjoy participating in a genealogy book club! I found five that are hosted by genealogy societies, and most are open to anyone (non-members included). Let me know if you know of any others that would like to be listed on the calendar!
- Kentucky Historical Society Genealogy Page Turners Book Club, currently two sections, one discussing Slavery’s Descendants: Shared Legacies of Race & Reconciliation by Dionne Ford & Jill Strauss, and another on Nathan Dylan Goodwin’s The Foundlings and The Chester Creek Murders. http://kentuckyancestors.org
- The Marin County Genealogical Society (California) hosts a monthly book club with books that are “related (sometimes vaguely) to genealogy or history.” The meetings are free and open to the public: Non-members are welcome, but need to send an email to request the Zoom link. See the details and both current and upcoming books at https://www.maringensoc.org/page-1828571
- The Virtual Genealogical Association has a lively book club for members only, focusing on a different book each month, covering both genealogical fiction and non-fiction titles. VGA dues are only $20/year, and include top quality monthly webinars on all kinds of genealogy topics from the best speakers. Book club info (and more about the society) can be found at https://virtualgenealogy.org/vga-book-club/
- The Florida Genealogical Society, Tampa, hosts a monthly book club, currently discussing the last chapters of “Advanced Genealogy Research Techniques” by George G. Morgan and Drew Smith. Details on the August meeting can be found at https://fgstampa.org/event/bookclub-2022-2022-08-17/2022-08-17/#more-10272
- Washington state’s Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society’s book club meets monthly via Zoom and is free and open to all who are interested. This month’s book discussion is on a genealogical murder mystery, Relatively Dead by Sheila Connolly. Meeting & book details are on the Events page at https://www.tpcgs.org
That’s all I’ve got for you for this week. As always, if you have ANY comments, suggestions or questions, please use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org. I always sincerely appreciate your input! And as always, thank you for reading 🙂
