ALL of the upcoming genealogy events.
. . . . . .
It appears it was a slower week than usual, with only 68 new genealogy events added, but they’re definitely a high quality 68 events! I’ll admit I’ve been totally swamped this week with other commitments, like the design and layout of the upcoming September issue of the Texas State Genealogical Society’s journal Stirpes. I’m really quite proud to be associated with the publication for the past 6 years, as the articles are always excellent and informative and I learn a lot just from making it look pretty (if I do say so myself, lol). As with many societies, a publication of this type is a benefit of membership, and often is worth the annual dues alone. Check out societies in your state as well as the areas you’re research and see what benefits they offer! You can check out a sample of the June TxSGS Stirpes DNA issue at https://www.txsgs.org/publications/stirpes/
The rest of my spare time this week has been spent updating slides and checking and re-checking links for the two presentations on “Cool Tools” that I’ll be giving at the Discovering Your Roots & Branches” – the 20th Annual Family History Fair on Sept. 10 in Tyler, Texas (mentioned last week). I really hadn’t intended to make this newsletter a shameless plug for all my other activities, but, well, it’s what’s been keeping me busy, and not scouring the Internet for new genealogy events this week.
ANY EDITORS IN THE AUDIENCE?
Newly added this week is a new Jobs listing from ISGS. The Illinois State Genealogical Society is looking for a Quarterly editor. See the ConferenceKeeper.org Job page for details.
LIKE TV, ONLY BETTER
Genealogy QuickStart TV has several upcoming programs lined-up through September which are great opportunities to get to know the genealogists being featured. The original broadcasts are live via Facebook Live and YouTube, and the recordings are available a short while after on their YouTube channel.
GENEALOGY TICKET LOTTERY
The Atlas Obscura folks have another bunch of interesting, multi-session courses posted this week. While the base price may be a bit steeper than other genealogy courses, a limited number of no-pay spots are reserved for those who would not otherwise be able to the courses. Details are on any of the Atlas Obscura course pages.
