This Week’s Genealogy News:
(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate — it’s just good info)
AFRICAN AMERICAN FUNERAL PROGRAMS
The Center for Family History at the International African American Museum has added hundreds of newly donated African American funeral programs to their Digital Archive. These include collections from Freestone County and the surrounding area in Texas, as well as Shelby and Knox Counties in Tennessee. You can search and view images of this collection, and check out their other digitized collections, at https://iaamcfh.omeka.net/s/IAAM_CFH/page/collections
MICHIGAN NATURALIZATION RECORDS
Thanks to the Eaton County Genealogical Society for this tip from their newsletter: The Archives of Michigan is currently working on digitizing Michigan naturalization records. These records may be searched, viewed, and downloaded for free on the Michiganology website. They currently have just a few counties online, but adding more regularly.
FREE COURSE ON THE GREAT IRISH FAMINE
IrelandXO is offering a free, self-paced, online course on “The Great Irish Famine: History, Diaspora, and Global Legacy.” Taught by “museum-based expert historians,” the course covers both the history as well as accessing related records for genealogy research. (Since this is a self-paced course, it is not posted on the ConferenceKeeper calendar). Details at https://alison.com/course/the-great-irish-famine-history-diaspora-and-global-legacy
FREE ADVERTISING!
NGS Organization members may request a FREE, 30-day sidebar ad on the ConferenceKeeper.org website each year, to promote an event or even just your society or library! Don’t wait until the end of the year!! The sidebars get pretty crowded by November. Contact me at info@conferencekeeper.org with any questions.
NOW AVAILABLE
Last week I mentioned a new Chrome extension for Ancestry users, Shoebox Plus Organizer, that will help researchers search, sort, and filter items saved in their Ancestry Shoebox. It is now available to download in the Chrome web store. https://shoeboxplusorganizer.com/
