  • Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, 1860. Russian playwright and author.
  • W.C. Fields, 1880. Stage and motion picture actor, born Claude William Dukenfield. He wrote his own epitaph which read, “On the whole, I’d rather be in Philadelphia.”
  • William McKinley, 1843. 25th president of the United States. One of the few presidents to be assassinated by gunshot.
  • Thomas Paine, 1737. American Revolutionary leader, corset maker, and author of several influential writings such as Common Sense, and The Age of Reason.

Celebrations                               

  •  Fun at Work Day.  Promoted to encourage enthusiasm and to relieve tension at work.  Shouldn’t this be every day?
  • National Preschool Fitness Day. Start them young – A day to encourage healthy lifestyle habits in preschool children.
