There’s lots of info to share this week, I’ll get to it.
There are several really important deadlines coming up so please be sure to check out the DEADLINES section a little further down this email.
GENEALOGY BUSINESS SUCCESS
If you are a genealogy professional, or even just thinking about starting your genealogy-business, Family History Academy has a new virtual course starting this week (March 16). “Essential Business Skills” is comprised of six modules over six months. Instructors Judy G. Russell, Allison Beard, Annette Burke Lyttle and Cathie Sherwood will share their knowledge and experience regarding starting or refreshing your genealogy business. Full details are at https://www.familyhistoryacademy.com.au/essential-business-skills/
MAAGI SCHOLARSHIP
Newly added to our “Awards, Grants & Scholarships” page is the Midwest African American Genealogy Institute (MAAGI) tuition scholarship, for individuals who are passionate about genealogy research and have a financial need. Application deadline is April 30. https://www.maagiinstitute.org/scholarships.html
LFTW UPDATES & A MARATHON
A few changes have been made recently to the original Legacy Family Tree Webinars schedule. The April 14 webinar, previously scheduled to be by Carol Baxter, will now be “We Remember: Researching, Remembering and Commemorating those who served” with Michelle Patient. Register in advance for this free presentation at https://familytreewebinars.com/webinar/we-remember/
Two of Elizabeth Shown Mills’ programs have swapped dates. “Using Negative Evidence: The Power of Silence in the Records” will now be Sep 22, and the March 24 webinar from Ms. Mills will be “Margaret’s Baby’s Father & The Lessons He Taught Me.” These webinars are part of several presented by Elizabeth Shown Mills this year, all of which require a current LFTW membership. https://familytreewebinars.com
Already on the calendar, but not specially indicated there, are the webinars included in LFTW’s upcoming 4th Annual 24-Hour Genealogy Webinar Marathon. Mark your calendars to get plenty of sleep before April 13 & 14, and get signed up for one, a few, or all of these free webinars. You can see the list of marathon webinars at https://familytreewebinars.com/24-marathon
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
The Sudbury District Branch of Ontario Ancestors has a program scheduled for March 20 that I certainly haven’t seen before: “Musical Memories, The Soundtrack of Your Life with Paul Haynes.” Motivated by his mother’s dementia during the pandemic, Paul looked for ways to aid her memory recall. He turned to sharing music and family photo albums on his weekly FaceTime visits. This motivated him to reflect on his own musical memories and how you can re-create your own. All are welcome. Register for the Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0kduyvpjMtHNKZTqTXY7X-uNYvUpsLSWch
GENEALOGY FUN (WITH DNA)
One special event that occurred just before RootsTech began was the DNA murder mystery dinner hosted by Nathan Dylan Goodwin and Diahan Southard. I wasn’t able to attend, but all the reports I’ve heard from those who did are absolutely glowing – all agreeing that it was very detailed, very challenging, and very fun. If you want to be notified when another “Genealogy Solve It!” event will be held, sign up for free notifications from Your DNA Guide, Diahan Southard at https://www.yourdnaguide.com/gsi
REPAIR WRAP UP
Thank you so much to all who have donated recently to help out with my very essential computer repair, which has just been completed and paid for (yay!) Wouldn’t you know, the majority of the website’s annual expenses hit this month too, but I’m not going to put out a call for donations again for a long while. I’ve got a birthday fundraiser on Facebook which has reached my goal to cover those expenses, and my birthday isn’t til Monday! Y’all can’t imagine how much I appreciate your support – not only donations, but just in your kind words when we meet, or via email. Thank you so much!
I apologize for any errors or omissions this week, and always appreciate when you let me know of any! Please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions. I always have access to my email 🙂 I hope y’all have a great week!
