THIS WEEK
I’m heading to Richmond, Virginia this week for the National Genealogical Society’s Family History Conference. I really hope to be able to see a lot of my genie friends and meet many more new ones – it’s my favorite part of attending in-person events.
THIS WEEK’S EVENTS
You’ll want to check out this week’s newly added list soon – about 45 of the new genealogy events are for this coming week alone! The 190+ new webinars, programs and classes cover a wide range of topics. From Beginning Research to Professional Development, you’ll find webinars and in-person programs on Adoption, DNA, your ancestors’ Occupations, Military, and more; and programs on African American, Irish, Italian, Arab and Jewish research, as well as researching ancestors from Denmark, Scotland, Great Britain, Ireland, as well as Canada and the US. You’ll find several programs on collecting and writing family stories, and even more programs on specific genealogy-based websites.
I hope you know by now, that you can always easily search for any topic on any of the calendar pages in the top left side, by typing in a search term. I suggest using the “Agenda” view rather than the “Calendar” view – it’s easier to see the specific results when they may be spread out over a month or two. (You can change your calendar view in the upper right side of each calendar box).
MORE FROM FAMILYSEARCH
Most folks are well aware of the many free genealogy webinars offered by the Salt Lake City FamilySearch library, but did you know that many of the other FamilySearch centers also offer a variety of free online programs? You’ll find many from the Los Angeles CA FamilySearch Center already on our calendar, and this week we’ve also included several from the St. George UT FamilySearch Center.
LOOKING FOR A DEEPER DIVE?
If you’re looking for more in-depth education on specific topics, you may want to look at some of the week-long institutes or multi-week courses that are available — there are several already on the ConferenceKeeper.org calendars. Remember to use the Search feature to quickly locate them — you can easily find Institutes by searching, you guessed it, “Institute”! This week you’ll also find 34 newly added 3-, 4- and 5-week online courses from Pharos Teaching & Tutoring, Ltd. Their courses are on quite a wide variety of subjects, such as British, Scottish & Irish research; One-Name Studies; DNA; professional development; and several on various aspects of genealogical research methodology; and are all led by expert in those areas.
Also newly added to our calendar this week are DNA courses from The DNA Geek, Leah Larkin. These are small group with personal interaction – always great for those of us who ask a lot of questions.
And don’t forget, online registration for the 2023 Texas Institute of Genealogical Research closes on Wednesday. There are seven different courses including DNA, Forensics, Southern US, Mexican, African American, Texas Courthouses, and Advanced Legal Research in Texas research. The course coordinators and instructors are all tops in their fields, too. TIGR only occurs once every two years, so you won’t want to miss out.
TUNE IN NEXT WEEK!
That’s all I’ve got for this week. I’ve got big news for next week’s email, but can’t even hint about it til then. As always, thank you for your emails with comments, suggestions, and especially corrections. They help me keep the calendar as up to date as possible, and also help me know what may need improvement. Don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at info@conferencekeeper.org if you’d like to reach me. Have a great week, and if you see me at NGS, please say “HI”!!!
