What’s New on Our Calendar to April 1, 2023

200 new genealogy events were added to our calendar this past week!

. . . . . .

This month is full of more Spring Seminars and Conferences, so I created a page with JUST this month’s seminars and conferences (that I’m aware of.. more might get added as the month is young!). You can increase and decrease the size on your computer, and/or download the PDF if you’d like, too. https://conferencekeeper.org/april-2023-seminars-conferences/

There are 200 new events this week, and many, many, really interesting topics! With the list being so long, I thought I’d highlight three that caught my eye:

  • The Library of Congress added two new free programs this week: April 5, We the Undersigned: Transcribing a 1865 Petition for Black South Carolinians’ Equal Rights. The presenters “will explore the historical context of the document and provide resources for doing genealogical research related to the hundreds of names on the petition.” And April 11, Using Maps in Genealogical Research, “an introduction to the map collections of the Library of Congress, with a special focus on resources for genealogists like land ownership atlases and fire insurance maps.”  Hopefully you already know that the Library of Congress has a wonderful collection of maps online 🙂 Both of these webinars are free.
  • The National Archives (US) has announced an upcoming free series of genealogy webinars on Public Service: Military & Civilian. The programs will be given live virtually on Wednesday afternoons, beginning May 3, and then will be made available as recordings after that. The benefit to attending the live session is the ability to ask questions and interact with the presenter – and no pre-registration is required. The topics are
    • Civilians at War: Records of Participation in U.S. Military Conflicts
    • Basic Military Records at the National Archives: Revolutionary War to 1917
    • National Archives at St. Louis: Understanding the 1973 Fire and Its Impact on Genealogical Research
    • Civilian Conservation Corps Indian Division on the Reservation
    • Accessing and Understanding Korean War Army Unit Records
    • Planning, Techniques, and Strategies for Preserving Family Collections and Stories

Full details on each program, as well as participation instructions can be found at https://www.archives.gov/calendar/genealogy-series/2023

That’s it for this week, except for the list of newly added events, below. As always, please don’t hesitate to use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at  info@conferencekeeper.org if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions. I always have access to my email 🙂  I hope y’all have a great week!
