It’s been a long week here — long hot days and nights, a couple without A/C before it could be repaired; thunderstorms and vehicle repairs too. Submissions were few this week, but include quite a variety of genealogy events: Tours, Cruises, Jobs, Calls for Papers, along with webinars and programs. In addition, I added several deadlines for conference discounts, registrations opening and ending also. The numbers went up fast, though, when Pharos Tutors submitted their upcoming online courses through 2024. Be sure to peruse the list farther down for all the newly added events! But first, catch the highlights and news you don’t want to miss:

THROUGH SUNDAY ONLY:

>FREE ACCESS TO FRENCH RECORDS
MyHeritage is offering FREE access to ALL French records through Sunday July 16, in honor of Bastille Day

>DISCOUNT ON LEGACY FAMILY TREE WEBINARS!
I attended the LFTW 2000 Webinars webinar yesterday, and it really was full of all kinds of very useful tips. You can watch the replay on the website at https://familytreewebinars.com/webinar/celebrating-2000-webinars-plus-10-tips-you-can-use-today

They also provided a discount code for half off of an annual membership for new sign-ups (not renewals, unfortunately). That’s $24.99 instead of $49.99 USD to have access to their library of 2000+ webinars. Use the promo code 2000web, but don’t delay – the discount is only good through Sunday July 16, if I remember correctly. I have a membership and love being able to watch a webinar and learn a new skill or understand a new concept any time day or night.

NEXT SATURDAY (JULY 22)

Registration opens next Saturday for the 2024 Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) AND the SLIG Spring Virtual 2024. Check out the website for classes and registration instructions and set your alarms 🙂

DNA EDUCATION AND FUN!

Diahan Southard (Your DNA Guide) and author Nathan Dylan Goodwin have teamed up for “A virtual sleuthing experience that will have you reviewing documents, tracking down clues, evaluating DNA matches and building family trees” to solve a fictional murder mystery. The 3-hour Zoom event is offered on two separate dates (Aug 18 and 19), and is for “beginner-intermediate” experience level with genealogy and DNA. https://www.gsievents.com/

NEW JOB POSTING

Tennessee Genealogical Society is seeking a Managing Editor for their  quarterly journal Ansearchin’ News. This is a volunteer position. From personal experience, volunteering your time to something you enjoy is very fulfilling.  Details are on our Genealogy Jobs page.

NGS CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The National Genealogical Society has issued the Call for Proposals for their 2024 conference, which will be entirely virtual. The submission deadline is August 18. For those interested in submitting proposals, they are holding a couple of upcoming free webinars with information on submitting to both the main conference and FOCUS programs. Details are on our Call for Presentations page.

LIVE SERIES ON IMMIGRATION/EMIGRATION

RootsTech just never ends! On July 26 they’re presenting four live programs on immigration and emigration, covering various locations and time periods. They will be live simultaneously on Facebook, YouTube and the RootsTech.org page. It doesn’t appear that RSVP is required, although it is mentioned in the Facebook event posts (along with full details) at https://www.facebook.com/RootsTech

ONTARIO, CANADA ARCHIVES, MUSEUMS AND HERITAGE ORGANIZATIONS

Ontario Ancestors, the Ontario genealogical society, is putting together a database of Ontario local archives, museums and heritage organizations to highlight these resources at their upcoming virtual conference (Sep 8-10), “Diversity in Genealogy”. If you know of an organization or you are a representative of an organization that should be included, please submit the information at https://conference2023.ogs.on.ca/heritage-organizations/.

FOR GENEALOGY SPEAKERS AND THOSE WHO HIRE THEM:

The Genealogical Speakers Guild is an excellent resources for both speakers AND those who hire genealogy speakers. If you’d like to learn more about the Guild, read about genealogy speakers that you might not have heard of yet (and those you have), and get ideas on giving a great presentation or finding a great speaker for your event, you can subscribe to the Genealogical Speakers Guild’s quarterly newsletter, Speak! to learn more about it’s members and organization.  Scroll down the left side of the page, at https://www.genealogicalspeakersguild.org/

 . . . . . .

I think that’s it for this week!. Thank you as always for your support, comments, suggestions, and especially corrections. I read and reply to every message, so if you don’t see a reply in a few days, check your SPAM folder. You may either use the CONTACT form on the website or email me at  info@conferencekeeper.org if you’d like to reach me.  Have a great week!

– Tami Osmer Mize
