 . . . . . .

I think everyone across the US is slowing down with all this crazy heat! Many societies pause their activities through the summer, but plan to start up full swing again by September, and I’m looking forward to sharing all the new fall season events with you soon! Here’s some info I came across this week — remember, none of the following are paid ads or affiliate links. It’s just good genealogy information that I thought others might be interested in as well!

> UPDATES

  • RootsTech has extended the speaker proposal submission deadline to August 6.
  • The Kinseekers Military Records Special Interest Group, led by military research expert KB Barcomb, will be the FIRST Monday in August (rather than the second Monday) – August 7 at 1:30 pm Eastern time. See their web page for more information and how to participate (it’s free and open to the public!) https://kinseekers.org/

> 5 MILLION VIEWS

Congratulations to Connie Knox and Genealogy TV for recently reaching 5 million lifetime views. That’s a LOT of genealogy education! Their fall season programs were added to our calendar last week. See what’s coming up, and maybe subscribe to her YouTube channel (free) to help her hit 100,000 subscribers!

> NEW “YOUTUBE” CHANNEL ADDED

I added the Bucks County Genealogical Society‘s online video channel to the YouTube page. It’s actually a Vimeo channel, but like YouTube, is a free site to view their genealogy education videos. Give them a follow too!

> ZOOM VOLUNTEERS REQUESTED

Ontario Ancestors is seeking volunteers to help as presentation moderators and technical moderators for 24 Zoom sessions during their upcoming 2023 Conference.  “Presentation moderators will welcome and introduce the speaker (script provided), will handle the online Q&A after the presentation, will thank the speaker, and wrap up the session. If you speak well in a Zoom type meeting, this is the perfect role for you. Technical moderators will ensure that the Zoom is open, let the registrants into the presentation, ensure that the speaker is set up and ready to go, deal with any technical issues that registrants may have and close off the session once the time has elapsed. If you have technical skills or have done this for a previous conference, this is the perfect role for you.”

If you are interested in volunteering for either of these roles, please complete this form located on their website at: https://conference2023.ogs.on.ca/call-for-volunteers/

> NEW EUROPEAN TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

If you’re planning to a research trip or vacation to Europe after January 1, 2024, you should be aware of upcoming requirement changes. Along with a passport, citizens from the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will need to apply, and receive approval for travel authorization before departure. The application process is quick and inexpensive, but will be required. Read more about it in this informative article from Conde’ Nast Traveler.

> INTEREST IN PINTEREST?

I’ve been adding a lot of conference, seminar, and other genealogy event flyers/ads to the ConferenceKeeper Pinterest page. If you’re a visual learner, you might enjoy it. It isn’t a comprehensive list of events, like on the calendar, but I think it’s fun to see the promotional art that comes with events 🙂

 . . . . . .

That’s it for this week. Thank you as always for your support, comments, suggestions, and especially corrections. I read and reply to every message, so if you don’t see a reply in a few days, check your SPAM folder. You may reach me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at  info@conferencekeeper.org . Have a great week!

– Tami Osmer Mize
