🔵 ROOTSTECH 2024

It’s time to start thinking about next year’s RootsTech already! Registration will open on September 18, and the first 1,000 registrants will receive a free, very limited edition, commemorative pin. I got a sneak peek and it’s really nice!  And as always, the “road to RootsTech” is paved with all kinds of special family history events too. Right now they’re requesting folks submit a family recipe for the “RootsTech Global Family Recipes Cookbook”. You can get more info and easily submit yours at https://www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/events/the-rootstech-global-family-recipes-cookbook

🔵 AN AFTERNOON WITH NATHAN DYLAN GOODWIN

Fans of Nathan Dylan Goodwin might enjoy spending an afternoon virtually with the author, live from Morton Farrier’s home, in a free zoom program Friday Sep 15, hosted by Family Tree Magazine (UK). Join in this live interview and find out how he creates his fabulous genealogy thrillers. Again, this is a free program, and there will be prizes! https://www.family-tree.co.uk/news/in-conversation-with-genealogy-mystery-crime-novelist-nathan-dylan-goo/

🔵 100 DAYS

I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but Christmas is in just over 100 days (106 to be more precise).  If you’re planning on creating a family history gift, perhaps compiling a few generations with stories and photos, you might want to get started 🙂 Some libraries offer photo scanning services, if you don’t have your own scanner — I’ve noticed several in-person scanning events added to the calendar lately. Below are just a few ideas from upcoming events on our calendar (there are many more!) that may help you decide on a neat project to gift your family.

And some of our website advertisers have a lot to offer in this area as well!

  • Related Faces – Surprise your family by figuring out who those mystery relatives are. Related Faces just might be able to identify those unknown folks in your family photo collection, and they’re offering a discount with the coupon code in their ad.
  • EvalogueLife offers a free tool kit for life story writers, as well as several courses that will help you craft the perfect family history.
  • Vivid-Pix offers a huge amount of information, software and hardware for everything from scanning your photos and improving their appearance, to a whole library of education courses on telling your stories, photo organizing, photo reminiscence therapy and more. Their Scan-Snap scanner is super fast and easy to use (yep, I have one). They offer loaner programs to NGS member societies too, so ask your local genealogical society to check out their Family Matters program. And search the calendar for “Vivid-Pix” to find scanning and education events being hosted by societies and libraries around the US!
