This Week’s Genealogy News:

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

November is Native American Heritage Month, and the National Genealogical Society has a great article posted on their blog, Upfront With NGS. The Nov. 1 post shares some ideas on researching Native American ancestry, as well as several excellent resources and links to help you. Read the article, HERE

HELP CHANGE THE FUTURE OF BRAIN HEALTH

The folks at Artifcts are looking for volunteers age 65+ for their Artifcts/UMass Chan Medical Brain Health Study to join an at-home, Artifcts web/app-based research study that aims to answer whether the Artifcts platform can be used as a digital screening tool for cognitive health.

Artifcts is a digital platform that helps users capture and preserve the history, memories, and stories behind their personal objects, making it easy to organize and share the meaning behind these items.  Participants will receive a one-year Artifcts membership at no cost to create and privately share Artifcts for the study, all from the convenience of your personal device (e.g., phone, tablet, or computer). Learn more and sign up for the study HERE.

WIN ROOTSTECH PASSES

As RootsTech nears, watch for more in-person pass giveaways on social media, hosted by several of the RootsTech Ambassadors. You’ll find one already posted on our CONTESTS page. If you’re holding a giveaway, be sure to either submit it using the SUBMISSIONS form, or just email the details, and extend your reach to our genealogy audience as well!

SHARE YOUR FAVORITE ANCESTOR

Family Tree Magazine (the UK folks) are celebrating their 40th anniversary this month! They’re asking you to share a photo and brief story of your favorite ancestor, and you (and your ancestor) could be featured on their website, social media, emails, and their wonderful magazine.  Full details about this can be found here.

2025 IAJGS CONFERENCE INFO WEBINAR

Attend a virtual information session on  Sunday, November 10 at 2 pm ET, about the 45th IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy, which will be  August 10-14, 2025.   Presented by Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogical Society, this program will include information about the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center and its Jewish resources, details about Fort Wayne, and plenty of time for your questions. Register for the zoom HERE.

ARE YOU MISSING OUT?

I’ve talked with a couple folks over the past few weeks, who couldn’t seem to find an event on our calendar that they knew should be there. So I thought I’d just be sure that everyone knows this little calendar trick: If you’re looking at the website calendars in the MONTHLY view, be sure to click the tiny word “MORE +” in the lower right of almost every date box! The standard calendar date boxes can only show a few events in them in the basic MONTHLY view, but quite often several (sometimes dozens) more events may be occurring on a day than are visible. Click that MORE+ button, and that date box expands to fit ALL of the day’s event. Don’t miss anything! Personally, my favorite view is the AGENDA view. You can choose your view in the upper right of any calendar. (And don’t forget that you can SEARCH in the box on the upper left side of the calendars!).
