This Week’s Genealogy News:

SLIG REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Registration for Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) 2025 and Spring Virtual 2025 will began today (Sasturday) June 22. It’s not too late to register for many of the excellent courses being offered. Find out more about 2025 SLIG courses here.

PRESERVING THE STORIES OF AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITIES

The National Museum of African American History & Culture has developed the Community Curation Program, which is a place and way for “members of the museum community to share the stories, photos and videos that make up their personal collections. The goal is to bridge the generational divide: through digital storytelling, we can continue the tradition that has helped us paint a more vivid picture of American history.” The website is full of individuals’ memories, photos, stories and more. It’s part of the Center for the Digitization and Curation of African American History, which offers free digitizing services and genealogy research events around the US. They recently held an event in San Antonio, Texas, and this September they will be holding live events in St. Louis, Missouri (I’ll get these events on the calendar once dates and details are posted). Learn more at https://www.communitycuration.org/.

SCOTTISH ANCESTRY?

The National Library of Scotland has added over 137,000 Ordnance Survey maps of England and Wales from the 1940s to the 1970s to their free maps website. Who Do You Think You Are magazine posted a very informative article about the map set here. The National Library of Scotland regularly offers free webinars entitled “Navigating the Maps Website” via Eventbrite, with the next one offered on June 26 (however it is unfortunately already full). I try to include the NLS virtual programs on the ConferenceKeeper.org calendar, and you can also follow them on Eventbrite to be notified of new programs.
