This Week’s Genealogy News:
(Mentions of businesses or societies in our News are unpaid and non-affiliate.)
This week’s news seems to be all about supporting organizations! Be sure your local society and/or library is aware of these opportunities which benefit everyone!
FREE AMERICA 250 TOOLKIT
The upcoming semiquincentennial (America 250) next year is raising and renewing interest in family history, particularly how families came to be in America — not just Mayflower ancestry, but pioneers and immigrants, whether 250 years ago or just last year. The genealogy and family history community is uniquely positioned to make history personal and meaningful for anyone exploring the country’s or their own past. The National Genealogical Society (NGS) has created a new, free toolkit which can help your organization get started with America250 planning or expand your options. It offers practical, easy ways to do outreach and increase engagement. Download the toolkit now at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/america250/
FREE NEWSLETTER CONTENT
Genealogy speaker Kate Penney Howard sends out a monthly newsletter which includes several articles on various genealogy topics that are offered for societies or organizations to use in their own newsletters or social media, free of charge — just requesting credit & inclusion of URL or email address of the article authors. Sign up for the newsletter at https://katepenneyhoward.com/ (scroll toward the bottom of the page for the Subscribe form).
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & A GIVEAWAY
Vivid-Pix is stepping up its support for genealogy and cultural heritage organizations like societies, libraries, archives, and museums (SLAMs) through an expanded Community Outreach and Affiliate Program. This program includes donating valuable tools like the Memory Station Home Edition Software and a new Community Prize package, which features a scanner, software, and educational materials, to help these organizations engage their communities in family storytelling and historical preservation. The initiative is seen as a game-changer for community engagement and fundraising, with organizations simply needing to recognize Vivid-Pix as a major sponsor to participate. They’re currently running a contest to give away several valuable prizes to a community location, so be sure to nominate your organization to enter the giveaway!
And don’t forget that NGS member organizations can take advantage of the Family Matters partnership with Vivid-Pix, providing materials for events and discounts on purchases. Vivid-Pix makes your event the easiest community outreach you’ve ever hosted. Details at https://www.vivid-pix.com/familymatters/
