Book - Listening to the Voices of Our Ancestors

When it comes to discovering details about the lives of our ancestors, we tend to chalk some experiences up to coincidence and luck. But is that all it is? Or is it something more? Along with stories of those who have connected with their ancestors, this book is also a practical manual to help readers learn to develop genealogical intuition. Find this and other books by Megan Reilly Koepsell on Amazon.

Welcome to all the new email followers who’ve joined us over the past few weeks! I haven’t said this in a while, but I want to be sure that y’all know that other than the occasional sponsorship ad (above), all of the information shared (below) are items of interest I’ve come across over the past week that I think are good bits of information for your genealogy journey — none are paid mentions of any kind, and we accept no paid or affiliate advertising within the text of these emails.

That being said 🙂 I really hope you take a few minutes to peruse this week’s list of new events — there are many really great educational webinars and programs on this week’s What’s New list. (I’ve signed up for several myself already!).

🔵 GOTTA LOVE A FUN TITLE
As you can imagine, I’ve seen thousands of webinar and program titles over the course of the past eight years managing ConferenceKeeper.org — but I think this is the first I’ve ever seen this one coming in January, hosted by the Tennessee Genealogical Society: “Granny’s Panties and Other Unmentionables,” by Heather Hibbs. I’ll admit, I laughed out loud — but it does sound like a very interesting program!

🔵 NEW GSI EVENTS (GENEALOGY SOLVES IT)
Nathan Dylan Goodwin and the GSI team have two new “solve-it-yourself” murder mystery experiences. GSI: Sawtooth, a virtual, on-demand, at-home experience; and GSI: Superstition Mountains – a limited-seating in-person murder mystery dinner in Salt Lake City, Utah (Feb 28, the night before RootsTech begins!).

🔵 OFFER EXTENDED
Last week’s email sponsor, Digging History, had such a great response to their special offers to ConferenceKeeper subscribers that they’re being extended until November 30! Click here to see the offers for coupons, giveaways and a free custom-designed family history chart.

🔵 NEW BOOK OF ONLINE RESOURCES
Thomas MacEntee has a new book: 500 Amazing Online Archives and Digital Collections You’ve Never Heard Of: US Edition. It’s available directly from his GenealogyBargains website, and also on Amazon. Since the book is full of website links, I’d definitely recommend the digital version. And if you have Kindle Unlimited, you can even access the book for free.

🔵 NGS MEMBER AWARDS & COMPETITIONS
The National Genealogical Society (NGS) honors individuals and organizations doing great work in the field of genealogy through their annual Awards and Competitions. Consider nominating a fellow genealogist or society for one of these honors — nominations are requested by December 15. Details here.

🔵 ANOTHER PERK OF MEMBERSHIP
Yet another new perk has been added to the list of benefits of membership in the National Genealogical Society! For a limited time, NGS members receive a discount on the subscription library program, “My GPC Library,” an online collection of over 800 digitized books from Genealogical.com, See all the benefits of both NGS individual and society membership here.

. . . . . .

I hope everyone here in the US has a lovely Thanksgiving holiday this week! Enjoy every moment you have with your families — and take every chance you get to collect your family’s stories! As always, let me know what works and what doesn’t on the website, too! What do you like? what do you wish was there or worked better?? You may reach me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org Have a great week!
